While Felix was on duty at his current workplace, he received a text.
He furrowed his brow and reread the text message he received to see if he understood it correctly.
The devil's hand is at work again. There is a missing student here in our school; we can't track it.
That was the message he read from a teacher he knew. Anxiety and tension mixed as he typed.
Who is missing again? He couldn't help but wonder.
He will first check on his sister, because she is far away and her campsite is near the crime scene, where many young women have suddenly disappeared like bubbles.
Thalia. I hope not. He had a prayer on his mind at that time.
Suddenly, his phone rang; he replied, and then his phone rang again.
He quickly answered the call.
"Hello,"
"Your sister is okay; her schoolmate is missing," he took a deep breath before continuing.
"Ruth—no, Chesca is not okay; we thought she just disappeared."
"Where did you see Chesca?" He asked the person on the other line.
"She lost consciousness in the dense forest; luckily, she had put the tracker in her pocket so we could easily trace the students."
He nodded. "Maybe the henchmen are already tailing one of Fuego's children. How is Mikaela?" He asked the other person on the line.
"Chesca will be okay; she is safe with the Dionson family."
"I know, but you were at the scene of the crime; you know that Chesca is still in danger." He said.
"She's my younger sister's friend; Thalia might get dragged into this." His real concern is Thalia.
The teacher that he talked to just sighed; it seemed that the problem was indeed serious, as they had lost a student.
"Does her family know what happened?" Felix asked.
"No, we won't take any action until 24 hours have passed since the child's disappearance; we're still holding out hope." The person on the other line provided the explanation.
He could only nod at that time.
"You know what to do when the time comes."
"I know, promise me that Thalia won't be in danger there, and I won't abandon you, because I still need to find out about my parents' death."
"I know. Okay, that's all. I just rested for a few minutes. We need to find our missing student before anything else happens." It only sighed.
"Okay, just keep me updated."
He didn't reply anymore and hung up the phone. Felix just shook his head and rubbed his temples. Because of the night shift and feeling sleepy, he didn't want to sleep because he was working.
He needs to take on the dangerous jobs. His job at the convenience store is just a facade to show that he is a normal man working to support his siblings.
In reality, he is the informant to the police; Felix lets in the illegal activities, observes, and secretly reports the incidents. The amusing thing is, he can forge certificates, birth certificates, and so on.
He was merely caught up in the incident involving his cousin Fernan; he got involved with the organization, just like him. Fernan also had siblings to take care of, and like him, they were completely orphaned.
In the organization, it just waits for a call on who to kill. Felix joins Fernan, but he can't even bear to take a life. There, he met the two siblings—no, not two, but four.
Because this woman had siblings, Felix helped two of them escape and approach him, and there he met someone who could assist the two who had escaped.
Eventually, the mastermind of the crime learned that Fernan had helped, and he was killed without a fight; even his siblings were murdered in their own home.
Felix witnessed the red liquid surrounding the bodies of his cousins when the police arrived, especially since they lived just next door.
Moreover, the reason he is helping is that he wants to find answers to the death of his parents and for his cousin to achieve justice, along with the siblings who were also affected.
Felix's shift was about to end; he also needed to go home. His work used to finish at dawn. Occasionally, his work would extend for a few more hours.
Now, he will get home early.
He is already feeling sleepy and needs to rest.
His other coworkers have arrived, and he is about to leave. He waited for a jeep to ride; he got home at dawn. Many people were already awake for their work. The city comes more alive when darkness falls.
Felix was also getting sleepy, and he could already see the street leading to their place. He immediately signaled the driver to stop. He was still walking towards the house. He saw the front of his cousin's house. This is the house of his deceased cousin.
Since its abandonment, the house has been quiet. No one dared to rent the house because, according to what he heard, it was inhabited by evil spirits.
It seems that his cousin and his siblings have not yet found peace; those living near the house say they hear crying and wailing, or it sounds like there is a commotion.
He turned the doorknob to let himself in. He scratched his head, realizing that the light was still on. He passed by the kitchen then.
He saw Jenny bent over there, seemingly sleeping soundly. His youngest brother, on the other hand, fell asleep on the sofa next to Jenny.
Didn't they sleep last night? So this is where they fell asleep? He questioned in his mind. He won't wake up Jenny and Greg anymore. He will head to the room to rest as well.
He yawned as he entered the room.
"Brother?"
He turned around then. His youngest sibling was already awake.
"Good morning, Greg." He greeted the child.
"Brother." It seems like he is about to cry.
"Why, Greg?" He was surprised by his brother's sudden crying back then.
"I saw Brother Fernan, he said. He said, 'Be careful with your outings."
The hairs on the back of his neck stood up.
He couldn't speak then. He was unsure of how to respond to his brother.
Greg always talked about what he saw around him. He knew that this ability was not believed by some people.
"I was scared, brother, when they showed me that you were shot." Greg cried uncontrollably. "I don't want you to end up like Mom and Dad." He sobbed.
He hugged his sibling tightly to calm them down from crying.
His sleepiness suddenly vanished because of what he was hearing now from his brother.
It's true that someone killed them. He thought to himself.
He didn't want to think about things for now; he first calmed the child, then went upstairs to the room, rested, and pondered. He continued pondering until he was overcome by sleep.
