I kept telling myself I was doing the right thing. Over and over again like some damn mantra. I didn't need love. I needed power — raw, filthy, undeniable power. The kind that could burn down cities and turn enemies into ash.

And Kai? He was my weapon. My devil. My key to it all.

Batista… sweet, stubborn, lonely Batista. He had a heart, but no army. No wolves, no backing, nothing but empty loyalty. What use was loyalty when I had no throne to sit on? How would I ever make Dan and Victoria suffer if all I had was sentiment?

No.

I didn't want love. I spat on love.

He thought that one moment of weakness — that shared trance under the moonlight — was going to change things between us?

I would never forget. Not until I ripped Dan's heart out with my bare hands and fed it to the starving dogs of the underworld. And Victoria? God help her — I had plans for her. Plans soaked in pain and screams.
