Chapter 119 - The Main Gun

The Hellraiser tore down the crumbling streets of New York City, a black blur moving at over 60 miles per hour, its engine howled like demons. Behind it stretched a growing horde of undead hundreds at first now thousands lured by the loud, earsplitting polka music exploding from the tank's loudspeakers. Accordions, tubas, and screeching brass instruments echoed between ruined skyscrapers in a sonic poka plague. The zombies chased desperately behind the noise, arms waiving, jaws snapping open and closed, minds too rotted to process anything beyond the torment that now consumed their afterlife.

Inside the tank, silence reigned.

Alara sat comfortably in her "Boss" seat, her legs casually crossed, fingers idly moving the steering wheel as the city skyline passed them by. Alara turned her head towards Raven, seated next to her in her imposing co-pilot seat marked "Big Boss."

"I'm so glad you made the inside of this tank soundproof, Raven!" Alara said with a sigh of relief. "This music would drive me insane otherwise."

Raven leaned back with a look of satisfaction, saying to Alara. "Don't worry. This is only the first surprise I have in store for the Red Blood Raiders today. This is going to be fun."

Alara smiled, her eyes excited. "Today is a good day for murder and mayhem."

Inside the New York Public Library, inside the old head librarian's office, Adam Carter stood behind a massive wood desk, yelling at his second-in-command, Jimmy stood in front of Adam scared out of his mind.

"Any news on that bitch Raven Salvatore?" Adam yelled. "We've got a bounty out on her, and nobody has brought me a single damn piece of news about her. Raven has already killed dozens of my men!"

Jimmy shrugged, dragging a hand across his unshaven face. "No word yet, boss. Raven has been on a rampage for a while now. The Yellow Fish Raider gang is after her now, too, after she wiped out half their sniper squads in Central Park. Word is they think she knows something about secret military technology as well, just like her father William told us."

Adam slammed his palm on the desk, yelling to Jimmy. "I don't give a shit what those fish heads think! Find her and bring her to me before Epsilon base gets their hands on her."

Jimmy straightened slightly, nodding. "Right, boss. I'm on it."

Before Jimmy could take a step outside of the office, one of the other Raiders burst into the room, pale and panting as he said. "Boss! Bad news there is a tank driving straight at us! A giant black one, leading a horde of zombies and playing torture-level polka music to lure them here!"

Adam narrowed his eyes. "What the hell are you talking about? Jimmy, go check it out. Make sure they're not just high again. Too much cocain has rotted your brains."

Jimmy blinked, offended. "But boss… I love cocaine."

Adam rolled his eyes. "Jimmy, I know you do, you loser. Now get out there and handle this!"

Jimmy bolted from the room with his lacky, racing through the library's halls until they reached the main entrance. As he looked through the shattered glass of the front doors, his mouth fell open.

"Holy hell! Boss!" Jimmy yelled. "It's true! There's a massive horde of zombies outside with a giant black tank leading them here it's insane!"

Adam stormed out of his office, pushing past stunned Raiders. One glance through the doorway told him everything he needed to know.

"Aww Shit!" he said while regretting his life choices.

Then Adam turned and screamed to his men. "Everyone! Grab your guns and shoot down that zombie horde! Bring the RPG's too we need to take that tank out!"

The Raiders scrambled into position. Crates were thrown open, as rocket launchers that were stolen from looted military supply convoys where grabed to use. Within seconds, the first wave of RPGs rockets flew across the sky.

Sheeeew. Sheeeew. Sheeeew.

Three rockets hit the Hellraiser.

Boom. Boom. Boom.

Inside the tank, not a single vibration was felt. The armor hull held, without even a scratch.

Raven smiled slowly saying. "How cute."

As she reached forward and operated the main gun system. The central cannon moved to face the stone steps of the front entrance for the library.

"Watch this," Raven said, to Alara voice excited. "I'm firing the main gun."

Alara leaned forward in her seat as the weapon locked onto its target the main entrance. From behind the doors, Adam's eyes widened in horror.

"Holy shit! Everyone retreat! Find cover!" he screamed, shoving his men out of the way.

Inside the Hellraiser, the round fired.

BOOM.

The recoil shook the street as the High Explosive Obstacle Reduction (HEOR) round launched from the main gun. Designed to destroy fortifications, the shell flew across the street and slammed into the library's front entrance.

The impact was beautiful. As a large explosion of shattered stone, fire, and smoke erupted outwards.

Alara laughed, yelling. "Fire in the hole!"

Raven side-eyed Alara, saying. "Alara, you are supposed to say that before I fire."

Alara shrugged her shoulders, saying, "It doesn't matter. I'm just glad they built those stone steps for us, so our zombie hoard can waltz right up to the front door."

Inside the library, Adam coughed in the dust cloud, waving smoke away from his face. "Don't just stand there! Open fire! That tank can't climb those steps! Take out the zombies first! You guys with the RPGs focus all tour fire on that tank now!"

More Raiders poured out, screaming, guns firing. As bullets shot into the zombie horde, but the zombies just kept coming, climbing up the steps, and swarming past broken doors.

The Hellraiser moved forward again, slowly climbing the marble stairs.
