Raven and Alara walked through the shattered archway of the New York Public Library, the scent of burning paper and blood curled in the air around them. Their steps echoed softly as they raised their weapons ready for battle.
A Red Blood Raider, limping and filthy, caught sight of them through the green fog in the surroundings. His bloodshot eyes went wide as he raised his AK-47 with trembling hands to fire at Raven.
"You bitches! This is all your doing, isn't it!"
He fired his AK-47
The bullets flew toward's Raven, until they didn't. One inch from her exposed stomach, a glowing magnetic field, came to life, stopping the bullets cold in their tracks. One by one, they fell to the ground.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
Raven smiled, calmly watching the Raider's disbelief. As he cried. "What the hell are you wearing?"
Before Raven could reply, Alara's voice yelled. "Mind your own fucking business."
One loud gunshot echoed through the air. As the Raider's skull flew back and he collapsed from the impact, landing on top of a crawling zombie whose leg was blown off from the earlier explosions. The legles zombie wasted no time sinking her teeth into the Raider's chest, eating the Raider despite her own bodies state.
Raven raised her Ak-203 and calmly shot two rounds into its head.
Raven then turned her head, toward's Alara. "You're such a jealous little minx, aren't you, Alara?"
Alara her hold on the grip on her rifle, eyes narrowing with a possessive madness. "I just don't like other men looking at you Raven. You're dressed so beautifully right now, showing off your stomach and your chest and your long, beautiful midnight blue hair... That's something only I get to see. Anyone else who sees you like this has to be killed immediately. That's why you're only allowed to wear these outfits when we're killing people. Because everyone who sees you… has to die."
Raven's smile deepened as she heard this "You're so sweet, Alara. You're making me blush. I feel the same way about you right now as well. Anyone who sees you in that ridiculous pink outfit needs to die, too. And not just because it's embarrassing."
Alara scoffed, hearing this as she delivered a low blow to Ravens ego. "Whatever. You know you enjoy having matching guns with me."
Raven nodded once, her voice shy. "...I true. I Do!"
Raven and Alara continued moving forward, deeper into the first floor of the library. From behind a collapsed pillar on their left, three zombies suddenly appeared moving towards Raven, jaws open, ready to bite her
Alara did not wait even a second. Lifting her pink AK-203 up and firing three rounds of bullets.
Pew. Pew. Pew.
The zombies were hit instantly in their heads, making them explode.
"Don't you dare come near my girlfriend and future wife," Alara said, staking her pre marriage claim on Raven
They moved deeper through the library's vast main atrium. Raven issueed a recall command to her two drones. Above their heads, her two drones canceled their search and flew back toward's them, taking position on their left and right sides.
From a hallway just ahead on Alara's right, two Red Blood Raiders ran out them with their rifles raised.
Raven and Alara were not surprised.
Alara and Raven raised their AK-203s simultaneously.
Bang. Bang.
Both Raiders collapsed onto the ground, two clean bullet holes now in their skulls.
Alara turned to Raven. "We get shot people as a couple. How romantic."
Before Raven could reply, a metallic noise sounded above them.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
A grenade flew through the dust-filled air from the second floor, landing directly in front of them. Time slowed down for Raven and Alara.
Without speaking, they both jumped in opposite directions, legs moving in a blur. Mid-jump, Alara turned and shot downwards, taking out the legs of a nearby bookshelf. The wood support legs gave out under the bookshelf. As books and magazines fell on top of the grenade along with the bookshelf.
BOOM.
The explosion was muffled beneath the pile of knowledge, paper, and ash burst outward harmlessly from the exposed sides of the bookshelf. Raven and Alara landed in unison, feet sliding slightly as they crouched behind a bookshelve.
In less than 2.2 seconds, they cleared the grenade blast radius easily within the four-and-a-half second fuse timer of the standard grenade. Their bodies moved with effortless coordination, the hallmarks of someone with Level One awakened power.
Another series of gunfire lit up the library.
Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud.
Bullets impacted the wood and hardcover bindings of the shelf Raven and Alara just ducked behind. Splinters and paper book pages exploded in all directions. From above, two more Raiders leaned over the second-floor balcony, shooting as them with everything they had.
Raven peeked out, thinking. As she ducked back behind, the bookshelf turning to look at Alara. "Give me some cover fire Alara."
Alara, eyes narrowing, nodded, responding. "Right."
