Chapter 39 - Self-denial PT2

"We have somewhere to go later."

The voice said, taking me out of my daze. I still kept playing with food, nothing was worth digesting at the moment.

A small hmm came out from me acknowledging what my father had said.

"Someone would think he is weaning away from his mother like a puppy."

I heard my younger sister Cora say from the corner on the dining table.

Didn't even bother looking up. If I acknowledge her, she'll only continue.

"Cora, leave your elder brother alone"

"But you can't say I lied though?"

I could, and I would, but then we'd be here all day.

"He is just tired. His body just needs to adjust."

And how long would that adjusting take?

I was even frustrated with myself.

I looked up and stared at my dad before asking him.

"Did that happen between you and father?" I asked my dad.

"No, it didn't happen when the first time I saw him I said I wanted him to your grandpa"

My face scrunched up .

"I saw him from across the room and immediately ran to my father."

"I had already liked him so there was no need for us to form an attachment since I previously had feelings" my dad informed me.

"So Ciro formed an attachment because there was no feeling involved?" my younger sister curiously asked.

"No Cora when you're around someone a lot wouldn't you form a bond and get close?"

"I Guess so"

I put the food in my mouth, still finding everything confusing.

No matter how many explanations I couldn't wrap my head around it.

An attachment with Kenan?

Is the world laughing at me?

I finally took a bite of my food. I continue to take a bite as I listen to my dad and my sister's conversation. Just the same information "So can an attachment even be broken?" Cora asks.

My fork freezes mid-air. I've never actually thought that. Never wanted to.

Because if the answer is yes… Well, then someone might try.

"What's wrong, Ciro?" my dad asks.

"Nothing. I'm full," I say, even though I've barely touched my plate.

"well it's more comment for people who are attached to just get together and imprint but I never heard of it being broken "

My dad looked at me ."What's wrong, Ciro?" with concern lace in his voice.

"nothing, I am just full. "

"You only took three bites." my dad said, sighing .

" Remember I told you earlier we have somewhere to go" I nodded a bit not feeling to speak

"So you will need energy." My dad said with a small side.

I picked back up my fork and ate a little bit.

"Its the annual charity even we usually attended and it will be nice to have since you missed the other for years gone by"

I missed it two times because it happened to fall around the same time I have mid terms. Probably would have missed it if the university wasn't closed for this week.

"Do I really have to go?"

"Well, yes it would be it will make me really happy that your there"

I squint my apps that persuade that voice.

"Well since you asked." I said muttering out.

My dad smiled immediately showing me where I got my looks from.

"The house keeper will bring up the clothes for you to wear in the meantime you can get your hair cut"

"What's wrong with my hair?" I curiously asked, unconsciously touching it.

"It looks untamed." Cora chimed in.

Always adding herself in when not needed.

My dad side eye my younger sister ."You and Cora can go to salon after we are done"

My day wasn't spent doing much but Cora dragging me along to every store she sees that peeked her interest.

"Hey, cheer up!"

"I am okay though"

My younger sister looked up at me and shook her head.

"Lets get you that matcha drink you like"

I sat down and waited because she demanded she ordered and I paid.My drink rested down on the table.

I picked it up to take a sip.

" So did you enjoy today?"

I nodded my head as I took a next sip..

"Are you feeling better now?"

"I guess"

I responded as we raised up to head to the appointment my father set.

As we walked in I whisper to my sister "Should I just bald my head "

"OH, no please don't " with visible disgust plastered on her face.

I laughed "I was just joking"

"It didn't felt like that at all"

As we got back home I didn't do much to my hair other than get it trim and I lay back down on my bed in a much better mood. Rather than feeling stuffy I felt lighter than before and I pulled out my phone finally checking it after days of going "Do not Disturb".

I look through my messages getting messages from Jacob and others. Then I saw it. His name. The name that shouldn't have made my stomach twist, but it did.

 I hated that it did.

I rolled my eyes and clicked it.

Can we talk?

I replied with a simple sure and closed my phone, getting up to get ready.

Ping.

So you're no longer angry?

Of course he couldn't just get to the point.

Who said I was angry? I typed back.

I wasn't angry per se , just shocked and irritated.

So you were sulking then?

I rolled my eyes harder this time.

Neither. Didn't you want to talk?

I don't talk over messages, Ciro.

Does he think he is of high importance now?

I stared at the screen for a moment, half tempted to just ghost him.

Pick a date and a place then.

I turned off my phone before heading straight to the bathroom.

A few minutes had passed or more so an hour to be honest. I put on the suit my mother prepared. Staring at myself in the mirror intently.

I laughed at my appearance. I looked so tired and weak. Which brought me the realization to get out of the slump I was currently in for the past few days.

I told myself I was going to get through this.

It's just a hurdle that I will eventually get over.

Smiling at myself before I picked up the cologne and sprayed myself numerous times.

I heard a knock on the bedroom door. "Ciro, Hurry up, we have been waiting for five minutes now!"

Tch!

lie.

you were waiting for three minutes.

I checked my hair one last time before leaving.

I made my way to the car parked in front .With Camilla standing outside of it . "I told dad to leave you but your lucky"

Cora sticked her head outside "We could have already arrived"

Oh please I made way to the car stopping and looking at Camilla beside me who held the door open. "Why do I have to sit in the middle?"

"Cause you will."

My father was in the front seat "Can you guys get in already."

I looked at my sister mouth fuck you before getting in the middle.

"We should have split up." my younger sister said annoyingly going around.

"Family time is valuable." my dad muttered in front of us.

"Not if I am squeezed to death."

My sister immediately hit me on my shoulder and screamed out in pain rubbing the area mutter that hurt.

"You know what hurts that perfume you have on." she coughed covering her nose

I turned to my left and said, "You wouldn't understand its limited edition." I said spelling it with my hand.

She removed her hands from her mouth muttering "I see why"

My face scrunched up and I turned to Camilla "Does it really smell bad?"

She laughed a bit and shook her head.

I turned around and that started the discourse of my ride going back and forth with Cora.

"At least, dad didn't run out of ideas for my name."

"You bitch-"

My dad that was sitting in front turn around "watch your mouth"

"Might as well call you coral and done" I muttered, taking my phone out of my pocket.

"Ciro, you're arguing with a child." Camilla muttered as she slipped out the earphones out of her ears.

"She's fifteen that's not a child. That's a whole mature man" I said looking down and checking my messages. With Kenan being the first to pop up. Clicking it and reading and the location being sent. Hearting it.

Cora hit me and muttered something but I didn't pay attention anymore.

"Mr. Ciro Soren . I should get free treatments in the future right?" Cora said looking down at the phone in my hand.

I turned off my phone. I turned to say something to her this time sucking my teeth in the process. Before I could reply I was hit with a question.

"So you're going on a date tomorrow with my brother- in- law?"

"What" my voice etched out and my elder sister too.

Where does she get those fantasies?

Before I could respond my shoulder was nudged . I turned to my side and looked at the curious face in front of me . "She is making things up."

"He's lying. I saw it for myself just now. They are meeting up tomorrow at that popular cafe.'

How much was she staring?

I straight away deny "It's not a date we have to talk about that project."

"Oh really, let me see then." Camilla said, holding out her hand.

I instantly held the phone to my chest "So you can't take my word for it?"

She shook her head and reached out for the phone.

"Cora, hold him down for me"

"Wait wait -" I said, tightening the grip on my phone even more .

Cora pins my shoulders down like she's been training for this her whole life. I yell for Dad, but he's already decided this isn't his problem.

Figures.

After many struggles the phone left my hand .

And a struggle to get my phone back and a struggle to get out of the grip of Cora. I cried out for help from my dad again.

"Camilla and Cora, leave your brother alone."

"We will! Don't worry, Let me see your face, Ciro"

She said shoving the phone in my face repeatedly. I turn my head side to side continuously.

"Father, talk to them please!" it came out more like a beg than a plea.

"You guys give him some privacy"

Cora reluctantly released me and Camilla handed back my phone in my hand. I was out of breath by the time I was let go.

"I told you guys the truth," I said, adjusting my tie.

I heard " sarcastic" from both of them.

I muttered out "Cora, I didn't know you had the strength of a bull."

"What did you say?" Taking offense to what I said .

"I said you look so beautiful."

"I know right."

I catch sight of the familiar building and let out a breath.

Finally, a break from them. Or maybe… just walking into the kind of trouble I've been avoiding all week.
