Chapter 10 - Is This Love?

The late afternoon sun softened into shades of gold and amber. Mani sat beneath the sprawling branches of a tamarind tree, watching the river glisten as the wind played through the leaves. Around him, Krishna, Gajanan, and Bharath chased each other through the petals that had fallen from nearby flowers, laughing loudly. But Mani barely noticed. His heart had found a rhythm all its own — a rhythm only Laya could inspire.

"Is this feeling good, my friend?

Is this love, my friend?"

He watched a peacock dance nearby, its feathers glistening in the sunlight, and felt the flutter in his chest. A butterfly drifted past, and his heart raced again. The trees swayed gently, flowers bloomed vibrantly — and with every small observation, he felt a quiet peace settling over him.

"When you touch my forehead, my heart races.

When you let down your hair, my heart races.

When you look at me differently, my heart races.

When you smile beautifully, my heart races."

Laya appeared quietly, sitting beside him on the riverbank, her shy eyes meeting his. She had noticed him long before, watching his subtle reactions, his small smiles at the little wonders of life. Mani felt a wave of both longing and calm. Seeing her struggle with the little obstacles of life, the way she had quietly endured, he felt sympathy and a fierce desire to protect her.

"Can you understand, can you reveal,

The dreams hidden in my heart?

Looking around, I see only you,

I yearn for your voice.

In the silence of time,

I know you're with me.

I gave you my soul at first sight,

I feel I've lost myself."

Sunitha and Monal walked by with playful grins, whispering jokes in Telugu and Tamil, but Mani didn't notice — he was fully immersed in Laya's presence. Their silent understanding, the way their eyes connected without words, made everything else fade.

"Just by looking at each other, we understand,

Our colors blend like a rainbow.

Slowly, as we disappear,

Our love becomes one.

After all the struggles,

I want to reach you.

Even if it's wrong,

I'm ready for anything for you."

The breeze carried petals around them, Krishna's laughter in the distance, and the sun set behind the trees, casting long, golden shadows. Mani reached out and gently held Laya's hand, feeling a quiet certainty: this was love, tender and overwhelming, playful yet eternal.

"Is this feeling good, my friend?

Is this love, my friend?"

And in that moment, amidst petals, laughter, and fading sunlight, the answer was clear — yes, this was love, the kind that made the world pause, even as life and friends continued their playful dance all around them.
