Chapter 168 - Time Travel to Snatch the Tesseract!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Two Captain Americas were locked in combat on the overpass, their shields clashing together, producing crisp, metallic sounds.

"I have to say, this is a pretty weird sight."

Black Widow stared at the two identical figures battling on the big screen, unable to help but comment.

"No, this is interesting!"

Loki had a hint of an excited smile on his face, staring intently at the big screen.

Captain America's face remained expressionless, as if he were watching someone completely unrelated to him fighting.

Bang!

A sound of fists and feet colliding rang out. During the fierce battle, the masked Captain America kicked Captain America, sending him flying.

"I can do this all day." The masked Captain America, looking at the Captain America on the ground, uttered his classic catchphrase.

"I know, I understand!" Captain America climbed to his feet, looking helpless.

Then, with a flick of his wrist, he launched his shield.

Hooded-Captain America also shuddered his shoulder, and shot out his shield.

Duang!

The two shields collided in mid-air, then bounced away from each other.

The two Captain Americas fought again, and because of the fierce fighting, they both fell from the fourteenth-floor overpass to the ground floor.

You can only say that a super soldier is a super soldier. They fell from such a height, and it was not a thing to them, and they continued to get up and fight.

But at this time, Hooded-Captain America found a pocket watch with Peggy Carter's picture on it, which had fallen from Captain America's body.

"How did you get this?" Captain America, wearing the hood, picked up the pocket watch and stared intently at Captain America, demanding an answer.

Captain America didn't have time to deal with the hooded Captain America and immediately went to grab the Scepter, which had also fallen to the ground.

However, the hooded Captain America locked his arm around his neck, cutting off his air supply.

"Bucky… is… alive!" In a moment of desperation, Captain America blurted out this sentence to the hooded Captain America.

"What?" The hooded Captain America was immediately stunned, and his grip on Captain America loosened unconsciously.

Judging by his reaction, he clearly didn't know this news.

Captain America took the opportunity to punch the hooded Captain America, knocking him over. He then picked up the Scepter and tapped it against the hooded Captain America's chest. The hooded Captain America collapsed onto the ground, unconscious.

Captain America got up from the ground, put away the Scepter, and gasped for air.

He glanced down at the other Captain America who was passed out at his feet and nodded in admiration. "That's one hell of an American ass!"

Just like Hawkeye Barton had said, it was purely a joke.

The image ended there.

Although this video wasn't very long, it was packed with information, revealing some very important details to everyone.

"Two Tony Starks, two Captain Americas."

Nick Fury shrugged. "It's clear that one Captain America and one Tony Stark teamed up to scheme against another Tony Stark. I have to say, this situation is completely beyond my imagination."

"Time travel! This is time travel, right?" Hawkeye Barton said to everyone in surprise, "Two Captain Americas, one who knows Bucky is dead, and another who doesn't."

"And two Tony Starks, obviously of different ages. Guys, this is time travel!"

"I can't believe something straight out of a sci-fi movie actually happened!"

Not just Hawkeye Barton, everyone present was incredibly surprised and taken aback. Even Loki, a god from Asgard, couldn't keep his composure.

Time travel was just too unbelievable for anyone to comprehend.

"What exactly happened is pretty clear from the footage. Stark, Captain Rogers, and Scott Lang, they went back in time. Their goal was to grab the Tesseract and the Scepter!"

"How they managed to do it, we don't know yet. But one thing is clear."

"The Tesseract and Loki's Scepter are incredibly important to them in the future, so important that they'd travel through time to get them."

Black Widow spoke seriously, addressing everyone.

That much was obvious.

The atmosphere in the room subtly shifted after Black Widow finished speaking.

Because at that moment, the Tesseract and Loki's Scepter were both right there with them.

Although they didn't yet understand why these two items were so crucial, they had secretly made a decision.

No matter what, they had to safeguard these two items.

This would prevent them from having to go through the trouble of time travel later on when they needed them.

Even though they didn't know how time travel worked, they could guess, even with a simple thought, that it would come at a significant cost.

Loki didn't say much, but his eyes flickered.

Through this video, he realized he might have underestimated the power of the Tesseract.

Even if Thanos had already demonstrated the power of the Tesseract to him, that was very likely not even close to its true potential!

And the Scepter Thanos gave him was the same. It should be far more than just a magical item.

After all, in the short time he had been answering questions, he had seen two different scenes of people trying to seize the Scepter.

[Please answer the question: Loki was taken to the Dark World by Thor to fight Malekith, but as soon as they arrived in the Dark World, Loki chopped off Thor's hand. Why did this happen?]

[A. As a gesture of allegiance, to surrender to Malekith]

[B. Acting with Thor to deceive Malekith]

[C. Pretending to agree with Thor to deal with Malekith, but betraying Thor at the last moment]

[D. Always intended to kill Thor, and seized the opportunity to strike]

[Friendly reminder: Those who answer correctly will receive the reward skill Sunflower Acupoint Hand; ---

[Those who answer incorrectly will have a random attribute deducted, including but not limited to knowledge, experience, skills, and possessions...]

Amidst the discussions of the crowd, a new question appeared.

Everyone refocused, directing their attention to the large screen.

This question was about Loki.

Whoosh!

After reading the question, everyone couldn't help but turn their gazes toward Loki, shaking their heads in disbelief.

Loki was indeed Loki. In terms of cunning and ruthlessness, he certainly didn't disappoint. Even if the relationship wasn't great, he was still his brother, wasn't he?

He actually cut off Thor's hand and stabbed him! Unbelievable!

Despicable!

What in the world did Thor do in his past life to end up with a brother like Loki, who was such a headache?

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Loki said calmly, a faint smile playing on his lips, as if he was quite pleased with his actions in the question. "Are you surprised?"

Everyone couldn't help but call him a freak in their hearts.

"Didn't Thor ever tell you about how I used to play tricks on him?" Loki chuckled, unconcerned. "It seems your relationship with him isn't as good as I thought."

"For example... Thor likes snakes, so you turned into a snake to get close to Thor, and then you stabbed him?"

Tony Stark glanced at Loki, speechless.

"So he told you, then why are you still making that surprised face?" Loki shrugged, as if it were a trivial matter.

"Over the years, I don't know how many times I've stabbed Thor, how many places on his body have been stabbed by me... but I haven't tried cutting off his hand yet."

"You know why? Because Thor has no brains. I use the same trick on him every time, and he falls for it!"

"I'm actually very curious. How someone so brainless can still have friends…"

Loki started ruthlessly criticizing Thor in front of everyone again.

Everyone present couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat, feeling sorry for Thor. Having a brother like that was a complete nightmare.

Loki had even sent the Destroyer to hunt Thor not long ago.

What a devil of a brother!

"Loki!" Nick Fury couldn't hold back and interrupted Loki, "If you're not interested in answering this question, I think we can do it for you. We'd be happy to!"

"No need," Loki immediately refused. He wouldn't miss this opportunity, of course. "This is my question, I can handle it!"

With that, Loki turned his gaze to the big screen and began to focus on the question.

"Dark World?" Loki frowned slightly. "Could it be Vanaheim, one of the Nine Realms? That's a dead planet! And who is Malekith?"

Speaking of which, Loki glanced at everyone present. "Judging by your expressions, you seem to know who this person is, but I guess you won't tell me, will you? Fine, I don't need you to tell me."

"No matter who this Malekith is, it won't stop me from answering this question!"

After Loki finished speaking, he began to stare at the four options, lost in thought.

"Surrender to Malekith?"

"I'm not Thor, that blockhead. A smart person needs to know how to assess the situation. Sometimes a temporary surrender is for the greater good, for the ultimate victory. I can accept surrendering to Malekith."

Although everyone didn't express any opinions, they agreed with Loki's words in their hearts.

They had already witnessed it.

Loki surrendered during the Battle of New York, didn't he?

He surrendered not even to a Dark Elf leader like Malekith, but to a few mere humans!

As Loki himself said, his surrender wasn't just a simple surrender; it was to undermine the Avengers from within, part of a larger scheme.

Therefore, option A seems perfectly reasonable to everyone.

You can't say that a surrender with ulterior motives isn't a surrender.

"Acting with Thor? Oh, that's highly unlikely." When his eyes landed on option B, Loki immediately shook his head.

Firstly, given the personalities of him and Thor, such a thing would never happen. Thor's way of solving problems is always just to charge in blindly.

He just smashes everything with his hammer.

He couldn't possibly use such a brainy method as acting.

And that was just the first point.

Not to mention, Loki's true identity had already been exposed. He knew he wasn't Odin's son, but the son of the Frost Giant King.

Not long ago, he had sent the Destroyer to Midgard to try and kill Thor, and had almost used the Bifrost to destroy Jotunheim.

Although he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, Loki knew that his secret release of the Frost Giants into Asgard wouldn't remain hidden for long either.

Given everything he had done, he would be sentenced to death in Asgard, or at the very least, spend the rest of his life in prison.

After all of this had happened, the relationship between him and Thor would be at an all-time low, absolutely at odds with each other.

How could the two of them possibly cooperate to fight their enemies?

"Pretending to agree with Thor, then screwing him over at the last minute? That's totally my style! My usual style!" Loki immediately ruled out option B and turned his attention to option C.

"That's also Thor's usual style. Every time I use the same trick, Thor falls for it!"

Everyone around agreed.

When the Bifrost broke, Thor had shown them all just how easily Loki could fool him. A ridiculously obvious lie was enough to make Thor completely lose it.

Option C was definitely a possibility.

"Seize the opportunity to kill Thor?" Loki paused, then remained silent. After a moment, he said, "That's not my style."

Although in everyone's eyes, Loki was a ruthless, heartless, and psychologically twisted executioner who wouldn't hesitate to kill his own brother.

But only Loki himself knew that he didn't actually want to kill Thor.

What he wanted was actually very simple: fairness!

Loki hoped that Odin, Frigga, Heimdall, and the others in Asgard would treat him the same way they treated Thor, instead of making him feel like he wasn't Odin's biological son.

Even though he really wasn't Odin's biological son.

Although he had indeed sent the Destroyer down to Midgard to kill Thor not long ago, it was just an impulse, nothing more!

Think about it, Loki had just ascended to the throne of Asgard, and everyone in Asgard should have obeyed Loki's orders, but what happened? His prestige couldn't even compare to that of Thor, who had been stripped of his divine power and exiled to Midgard!

It was fine with those friends of his in Asgard, but even Heimdall, who held a high position of power in Asgard, was secretly disloyal, colluding with others to do things behind his back, trying to bring Thor back to replace him.

How could Loki not be angry? He had only decided to kill Thor out of a moment of anger.

Otherwise, he had met Thor, who had become a mortal, before, so why didn't he act then?
