Chapter 243 - The Only Way to Defeat Thanos

Under Tony Stark's "deadly chain interrogation," the answer to this question gradually surfaced.

"Makes sense!"

Dr. Banner also voiced his agreement. "From a probability standpoint, the likelihood that multiple different outcomes all include the same step is indeed very low."

Even those who didn't understand probability — like Thor and Star-Lord — could see from intuition alone that such a coincidence was unlikely.

Among more than a thousand possible outcomes, only three resulted in victory, and all three required handing over the stone?

Wasn't that a bit too much of a coincidence?

Of course, it wasn't impossible — but compared to the possibility that there was only one victorious outcome, the latter was obviously far more likely.

After the group discussed it, the answer basically became unquestionable.

Option B had the highest probability of being correct.

As for who should answer, a short round of discussion placed the responsibility onto Captain America.

Reason was simple: Yu Wushu would have the greatest value in his hands.

After all, Captain America's primary method of attack was throwing his shield.

Yes, the shield used to bounce back on its own, and could even hit multiple enemies in a "chain shot," but all that was still bound by physical laws.

But if he could control it freely with Yu Wushu?

That would change everything.

Curved-arc throws? Not a problem.

This skill was practically made for him.

Of course, that was the most important reason — but not the only one.

Many skill-type rewards had high physical-fitness requirements, even directly determining their upper limits — like Black Widow's Zhenzhen Fruit, or Tony's Lingbo Weibu.

From that perspective too, only someone with Captain America's body could maximize this skill.

Captain America himself was quite satisfied with the skill. Without hesitation, he turned to the system screen and gave his answer:

"I choose B — one possible outcome!"

[Correct answer!]

[Congratulations, Steve Rogers has obtained the reward: Jia Family Yu Wushu!]

"Yes!"

He kept a straight face, but inside he couldn't help feeling excited.

This skill suited him perfectly.

Swoosh!

The skill settled instantly. Even Captain America couldn't hide his grin now.

He raised a hand and activated Yu Wushu.

The shield he had set on the ground suddenly shot upward as if drawn by an invisible force, flying straight into his grasp.

Then, with a single thought, Captain America controlled it again.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

The shield circled once above everyone's heads inside the quiz space, then returned neatly to his hand.

"Cool! Rogers, that's really cool."

Thor excitedly tossed his hammer into the air and caught it again. "Your shield is now just like my hammer."

"With Yu Wushu, his strength must have increased severalfold, right?" Banner's eyes lit up.

A thrown shield was one thing; a freely controlled shield was another entirely.

A thrown shield relied on physics.

Yu Wushu relied on will.

"I suddenly have an idea."

Strange's eyes widened slightly. "If the Captain stands on the shield and uses Yu Wushu to control it… wouldn't the Captain… fly?"

The group collectively blurted out: "Holy—!"

Strange's idea was bold, but undeniably logical.

So Captain America could… fly now?

That was one hell of a power-up.

"Yes, I can indeed do that," Captain America admitted, barely containing his excitement.

Holy crap — he really could fly.

Sure, riding the shield was a little weird… but flight was flight.

"However, if I'm standing on the shield, I can't use it to attack, and flying like that consumes a lot of energy. So unless necessary, I probably won't fly on the shield."

He added the clarification quickly.

The weight of the object controlled mattered a lot in Yu Wushu.

Jia Zhengliang — the original user in the Jia family — controlled twelve Zhanxian Flying Knives.

Knives weighed almost nothing.

Captain America's shield? A whole different story. Much heavier, much less flexible.

But the weight also meant greater inertia and higher attack power.

And this world wasn't the world of Yi Ren — no "abiilities" or extreme movement techniques existed here.

Even if less flexible, it was more than enough.

"So Rogers, your Yu Wushu can only control your shield?"

Tony immediately caught the key detail.

"Yes." Captain America nodded.

"Yu Wushu can't just control anything. You have to use something called 'qi' to refine an object over long periods of time."

"And I don't have qi."

"When I received the reward, the system let me bind one object — so I chose my shield. That means I can only control my shield."

Everyone nodded in understanding.

"Qi? What's that?" Star-Lord asked curiously.

Captain America hesitated — he didn't even know how to describe it. The terms in his head didn't translate well.

Still, he explained it as best he could, leaving everyone dizzy and confused. All they got out of it was that the stuff was "really powerful."

[Quiz complete. Begin playing answer explanation!]

As always, shortly after their discussion ended, the explanation video appeared on the main screen.

The first thing that appeared was a barren, shattered, ruined planet.

And everyone recognized it instantly — Titan, where Iron Man, Doctor Strange and the others fought Thanos.

"What happened to this planet?"

Star-Lord's voice rang out as he scanned the environment with a yellow glowing stick. "Eight-degree axial tilt shift. Gravity spikes everywhere."

Well, he was a space veteran. Having specialized equipment was nothing unusual.

Behind him, Mantis was joyfully bouncing around a gravity field like it was a trampoline.

Spider-Man observed the environment.

"We have an advantage — he'll come to us. We have to use that."

Iron Man said to Star-Lord, then signaled everyone.

"Alright, I have a plan — at least a rough outline."

He approached Star-Lord, who leaned over, as did Spider-Man.

"It's simple. We lure him in, knock him down, and take what we need. I don't want to drag this out; I just want the gauntlet."

But when Tony glanced to the side, his voice instantly sharpened.

"You're yawning?" He pointed at Drax. "I'm explaining the plan, and you're yawning?"

Drax stood across from Mantis, head tilted back, mouth wide open mid-yawn.

A blissful, satisfied yawn.

Everyone at the screen fell silent. "Humble Brother" was hopeless.

Even worse than Star-Lord.

But after the last clip, everyone already understood Drax's… personality. No surprises here.

"Did you hear anything I said?" Tony asked.

"After you said 'we need a plan,' I stopped listening." Drax answered honestly.

"Right. He's in his own world," Tony sighed to Star-Lord.

"They're used to improvising," Star-Lord shrugged.

"How do they usually improvise?" Spider-Man asked.

"Draw aggro and start a brawl," Mantis said matter-of-factly.

"Correct!" Drax agreed wholeheartedly.

Everyone: "…"

So Mantis was unreliable too. Just like Drax.

Star-Lord's team really was a zoo.

Compared to them, Star-Lord actually seemed… competent.

Tony looked like his soul had left his body.

With teammates like this, death might've been easier.

"Quill, can you gather your people?" Tony asked sternly.

"No need for Mister Quill — just Star-Lord is fine." Star-Lord winked at Drax and Mantis, and they gathered around.

"We need to work together. If we run in with just bravery—"

"Don't say bravery," Star-Lord cut him off.

Everyone thought he'd say something smart —

"We don't even know what that means."

Everyone: "…"

Right. Still unreliable.

"Alright buddy, we're optimistic, and I like your plan… but your plan sucks." Star-Lord said. "So let me make the plan. Then it'll be perfect."

"Tell him about dancing to save the world," Drax urged.

"What dancing?" Tony asked.

"Nothing important," Star-Lord replied smugly.

"Like that movie Footloose?" Spider-Man asked.

"Yes! Just like Footloose! It's still the greatest movie ever, right?"

"It never was," Spider-Man said seriously.

The strategy meeting had derailed into movie talk.

Tony was exhausted. Truly exhausted.

So many people, not one reliable.

He could only do it himself.

"Flyboy over here isn't much help," Tony muttered to Spider-Man.

"Flyboy?" Star-Lord frowned. "That's a compliment. I'm half-Earthling, which means I'm half-stupid — and you're 100% stupid."

"Glad your math is so good."

"Excuse me," Mantis suddenly said, staring at something, "does your friend… often do that?"

Everyone followed her gaze.

Doctor Strange was floating cross-legged in midair.

The Eye of Agamotto was open on his chest, the Time Stone glowing green, his head twitching in all directions.

Creepy as hell.

Everyone gathered around, confused — and Strange suddenly snapped out of it.

"What was that?" Spider-Man asked.

"I looked forward in time," Strange panted. "I viewed all possible outcomes of the coming battle."

"How many did you see?" Star-Lord asked.

"Fourteen million, six hundred and five."

"How many did we win?" Tony asked.

"Just one," Strange said heavily after a long pause.

The scene ended there.
