Chapter 259 - Iron Man: Can I Still See My Father?

T'Challa wasn't wrong.

From a tactical standpoint, since Scott Lang already had the Ant-Man suit and could shrink himself infinitely, any diversionary tactics were completely unnecessary.

He could have sneaked into the base silently, yet here he was, actively creating clues!

Sam Wilson wasn't a fool—he was a paratrooper. Once he saw through a diversion, he'd immediately know someone was targeting the base, then use his extreme mobility to return quickly.

This was basically exposing yourself on purpose. Only an idiot would do that.

"T'Challa's right," Captain America nodded. "Tactically speaking, it was a stupid decision."

"Exactly. That's not something I could ever do. Too dumb," Scott said, waving his hands.

Could someone with his intelligence really do something so senseless?

"MIT graduate here, you know?"

Everyone else exchanged glances, silently agreeing with T'Challa. Option D was unanimously ruled out.

Now only B and C remained.

"Do we sneak it quietly, or do we defeat Sam first and take it? Both are possible, but which is more likely?" Tony Stark scanned the room and gave his judgment.

"I'd say the first option is more probable."

"C, then," Strange said thoughtfully. "It's the Avengers' base. You don't steal something from there unnoticed, not likely."

The consensus leaned toward C. Even though Scott had stolen the prototype, Sam Wilson discovered him. The fight ensued, Scott defeated Sam, and took the prototype—logically consistent.

No one really believed the Avengers were that incompetent.

"Lang, this is your question. You decide," Cap said, leaving the choice to Scott.

"Oh, me? Exciting! Honestly, a little pumped," Scott rubbed his hands and face.

After a pause, he gave his answer:

"I pick C!"

[Correct Answer!]

The system chimed.

"Yea!" Scott pumped his fist, elated. First question, first correct answer—he could hardly contain himself.

[Congratulations, Scott Lang receives the reward: the Expand-Shrink Laser Gun!]

A sleek, flashlight-like gun appeared in his hand, with all the data downloaded into his mind.

"Two buttons," Tony Stark observed. "One to enlarge, one to shrink. But the design's crude—looks like a flashlight!"

"You got it," Scott replied, examining it eagerly.

Eager to test it, Scott looked around—but the test room was empty.

He shrugged, tossed his jacket on the floor, pressed the red button, and fired at it.

Whoosh!

The jacket shrank rapidly before his eyes.

"Wow! It actually shrank! Did you see that? Incredible!"

The veterans watching were calm; they'd seen stranger things. But T'Challa's jaw dropped.

Even Wakanda's tech, world-leading as it was, had never achieved this.

Scott pressed the other button—the jacket expanded enormously, sleeves thicker than a person's arm.

"This is amazing! I love it!" Scott was ecstatic.

With this, future thefts would be easier: shrink it, pocket it, security wouldn't detect a thing.

Money for child support, visits to his daughter—all feasible now.

"Lang, can it affect living beings, like humans?" Strange asked, curious.

"Yes! Absolutely!" Scott raised the gun. "Want to try shrinking or enlarging?"

"No, absolutely not!" Strange firmly declined.

"Anyone else want to try? It'll be fun!" Scott asked, but no one dared.

"I guess it can't resize itself, right?" Tony noted. "Otherwise, Lang could shrink without the suit."

Currently, shrinking himself meant he couldn't use the gun to enlarge himself again—a tiny person can't wield a huge gun on themselves.

[Quiz complete! Answer analysis begins!]

The screen flickered to life.

"First, we need the prototype signal device!" Hank Pym's voice came from a map room.

"It'll help us bypass Klaus' security in the future lab vault," said a short-haired, competent woman.

It was Hope Pym, Hank's daughter.

Facing them was Scott Lang, receiving instructions.

"That thing's gathering dust in Howard Stark's old warehouse up north in New York. Should be easy," Hank explained, showing photos.

Scott gaped. Klaus? Klaus Technology? He was helping someone steal from a major corporation? In the future, he'd help anyone take on such a giant? And even infiltrate the Avengers' base? Insane.

"Darren Klaus was Hank's student but kicked him out of Pym Industries and renamed it Klaus Tech," Cap summarized.

Scott was stunned—his mentor turned rival, corporate betrayal, future heist…

The screen shifted: a group of ants fluttered through the sky, one carrying Scott!

Scott Lang was riding an ant!

"Taming an ant to fly? Wow," T'Challa admired.

Everyone watching internally gasped.

"Guys, we might have a problem," Scott's voice came through comms. "Hank, you said old warehouse—but this isn't it!"

The ant mount flapped to the roof, revealing… the Avengers' training base.

The intel was way off. Dangerous.

"Get out of there!" Hope yelled.

"Retreat!" Hank echoed.

"No worries, no one's here," Scott said, charging ahead.

"Anthony, roof, now!" he commanded his ant.

Flap, flap—the ant obeyed, flying toward the base roof.

"He'll lose the suit," Hank muttered.

"No, he'll lose his life!" Hope added.

Scott leapt to the roof.

Swoosh! Sam Wilson landed.

Even a tiny ant can't slip past the Avengers unnoticed.

"I can see you," Sam said, scanning.

Scott pressed a button, restoring normal size.

"Hi, I'm Scott Lang!" he introduced himself, showing off.

"Why are you here?" Sam asked sternly.

"Big fan," Scott replied.

"Thanks… who are you?"

"Ant-Man."

"Are you going to explain what you're doing?"

"Just borrowing some tech to save the world. You get it?"

"Got it!" Sam started moving against him.

Scott shrank—Sam caught only air.

The fight began. Scott initially used his small size advantage, but Sam adapted. Soon, Scott was outmatched.

Then he made his move—slid inside Sam's wing and dismantled his flight gear, grounding him.

Without flight or scanning, Sam was neutralized.

"Cap can't know about this," Sam muttered over comms.

The screen cut—Scott's theft was complete.

Cap's earlier assessment was correct: no reinforcements came from the base, confirming the plan's success.

"I'm amazing in the future! That Sam's so skilled—he can fly, his goggles see everything—but I beat him!" Scott gushed.

From a struggling dad and petty thief to legendary thief in the future, Scott reflected on his unexpected talent.

"Hank wants the prototype to bypass Klaus Tech's vault. Whatever it is, it must be important."

Cap nodded, and Strange added, "If Hank values it, it's no ordinary device."

Scott sighed. "So… I have to steal from Klaus Tech too? Really?"

Destined to be a career thief? Seems like it.

[Next Quiz: To save half of Earth's life, superheroes set out to collect the Infinity Stones. During this, Tony Stark collects the Tesseract and meets someone he has a great conversation with. Who is it?]

A. Pepper PottsB. James Rhodes (War Machine)C. Howard StarkD. Happy Hogan

Hint: Correct answer earns the robot EVA. Wrong answer randomly deducts stats, skills, or items.

Tony glanced at the screen—his father Howard Stark? Dead… how is this possible?
