While Peter Parker was quietly crying, two figures climbed up the stairs and walked over to him.
It was Ned and MJ.
They didn't say anything unnecessary. They simply walked over and tightly embraced Peter Parker.
In front of his best friend and his girlfriend, Peter Parker could no longer suppress his emotions. He broke down and cried loudly.
"There's someone I want you to meet."
After comforting him for a while, MJ suddenly spoke.
She stood up and looked toward a nearby rooftop.
Peter Parker followed her gaze and saw two figures standing there. The darkness concealed their identities.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The two figures leapt down from the rooftop—over twenty meters high—and landed in front of Peter Parker.
Peter immediately became alert.
"Wait, wait!"
He stopped them from coming any closer.
"About May… I'm sorry."
The Tobey-version Peter Parker spoke first, sincerely addressing him.
"What the hell?"
The Peter Parker watching the screen instantly grew tense.
From the way the other Peter spoke… did something happen to Aunt May?
A terrible premonition surged within him.
In this world, Aunt May was his only remaining family. He couldn't think of anything else that could make him collapse like that.
His heart suddenly felt heavy.
"Yeah… I'm sorry," the Garfield-version Spider-Man added. "I understand how you feel—"
"No, no, don't tell me you understand what I've been through! She died. It's my fault…" Peter Parker interrupted him. "She died for nothing!"
"May… is dead!"
The Peter Parker in front of the screen froze.
The one thing he most feared… had actually happened.
His eyes widened as he stared at the screen, desperate to know what happened in the future that led to Aunt May's death.
He had to stop it from happening!
"So there are things I have to do!"
On the screen, Peter Parker said firmly.
"Peter…" the Garfield-version Peter tried to persuade him.
"Stop. Just stop!" Peter cut him off.
"You don't belong here. And neither do you. So I'm sending you back. The others are from your worlds too, right?"
"So you deal with them. If they die, or if you kill them, that's on you—not me. I don't care anymore."
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this. But you have to go back."
Peter's emotions were unstable—low, restless, slightly irritable.
"My Uncle Ben died. Because of me," the Tobey-version Spider-Man said quietly.
"I failed," the Garfield-version added. "I failed… so when my… uh, she was my MJ… I couldn't save her. I'll never forgive myself."
"I kept trying to be this and that… a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. I know that's what she wanted… I just don't want you to become like me."
"Uncle Ben died. I found the man I thought killed him. I wanted him dead. I got what I wanted. But it didn't make things better. It took me a long time to learn how to move through the darkness."
The two Spider-Men comforted him.
They had experienced nearly identical tragedies. The three of them empathized deeply, and under their persuasion, Peter slowly opened up.
The scene froze as the three of them looked at one another.
The information revealed in this footage was extremely heavy.
Peter Parker's only family member—dead.
But the system didn't reveal how or why. It left Peter extremely anxious.
"That's it? What happened?" Peter shouted. "Even a little hint would help!"
"Peter, don't panic," Tony Stark said seriously. "Whatever happens in the future—it hasn't happened yet. And it won't."
"That's right, kid," Captain America added. "We've answered so many questions, gained so many rewards and future insights precisely to change tragic futures. The same goes for your Aunt May. It won't happen."
Peter finally felt slightly better.
He had gained tremendous power compared to before. That alone could change many things.
"You're right, Mr. Stark. Captain. It hasn't happened yet. What I need to do now is stay vigilant and prevent it!"
He refused to believe that with his current strength—and the backing of the Answerers' Alliance—he would still fail to protect Aunt May.
"Although we don't know what happened to May, I suspect it was someone from another parallel universe," Strange said calmly from his hospital bed.
That was easy to infer.
When Peter first saw the other two Spider-Men, he wasn't shocked. He even mentioned sending them back—and referenced other individuals from their worlds.
Aunt May may have died because of those people.
Which meant—
"One day in the future, the multiversal barrier is broken. People from other universes enter ours," Thor said gravely.
That wasn't good news.
If other universes' Spider-Men could come, what about their Thanos?
Or even Infinite Ultron?
Compared to that, Ned learning Kamar-Taj magic seemed trivial.
[This round of answering is over!]
The system announcement sounded again.
"Same as usual—if everyone's free, let's meet at the base," Captain America said.
"Considering my current condition, I probably can't attend," Strange said weakly.
"Stay in touch," Captain America replied. "And think carefully about becoming a sorcerer."
"I will."
Flash!
Strange found himself back in his hospital room.
"Strange, don't think too much. Just rest," Christine said gently.
"I know. Thank you, Christine."
She studied him closely. His calmness far exceeded her expectations.
She expected him to break down after losing the use of his hands.
Instead, he seemed unaffected.
That worried her more.
"Strange, if you want to talk, I'm here."
"I'm fine, really. What I need now isn't a talk. It's pizza. I'm starving."
After confirming his condition, Christine left.
Soon, Strange's phone rang.
"Strange, how are you feeling?" It was Captain America.
"Fingers hurt a bit. Otherwise fine. I'll miss the meeting."
"Focus on recovery. I'll send you the meeting notes later."
After the call ended—
"Bucky, I'm heading to see Nick Fury."
About half an hour later, everyone gathered.
A new strategy meeting began.
"It seems Earth will inevitably enter the Multiverse Era," Bruce Banner sighed.
Infinite Ultron would eventually transcend his universe.
Would theirs be targeted?
No one knew.
But they had to prepare.
Besides Infinite Ultron, Kamar-Taj magic could also break multiversal barriers.
And the arrival of the three Spider-Men suggested an interweaving of three parallel universes.
Not Ultron's doing.
In short: multiversal barriers can be broken.
And not just by Ultron.
"Banner's right," Nick Fury said gravely. "This is our greatest challenge."
Silence filled the room.
Thanos no longer frightened them much.
The unknown multiverse did.
Even Infinite Ultron alone was terrifying enough.
After intelligence sharing, discussion shifted to operations.
Finding Karli Morgenthau? Minor issue.
The priority: seizing the Power Stone from Yondu.
Thor and Star-Lord explained: Yondu guarded it closely.
"We can't wait forever," Tony Stark said. "If we can't find a peaceful chance, we may have to take it by force."
"Agreed," Nick Fury nodded. "Star-Lord, we've waited long enough."
"Okay, okay!" Star-Lord waved his hands. "Thor and I spread false intel. Yondu believes it."
"He should leave soon to take a job stealing super batteries."
"So… wait for our signal."
