Ember laid on her front on her bed after the healer finished tending to her wounds. Yet even as the night got darker and darker, sleep couldn't come.
Not when the Queen's calmness after their last conversation unnerved her.
Truly, Ember had expected more from her. More shouting, more screaming, instead she just stood there, taking everything in. It was almost like she possessed far more knowledge on those matters than Ember ever would, which was just strange.
"Will you not sleep, princess?" Nada said, biting her lips worriedly, "your wounds are quite deep and the healer instructed that you need some rest."
Ember turned to the Handmaiden, taking her in as she lit more candles in place of extinguished ones.
"You've known my mother since you were born, correct?"
Nada stiffened at the question. Then she chuckled. "You forget I was born at the same time you were born, so naturally, we both have known your mother for the same time frame." She corrected.
