EMBER's POV
"Do you still wish to wield absolute power? As you promised me years ago, do you still wish to rise from the ashes of powerlessness that once labeled you? Do you truly wish to become Queen Regent?" The Queen asked Ember while she still struggled to understand the possible reason behind her distraught eyes.
The Queen's apology had been totally unexpected. In this relationship of theirs, Ember had been almost certain that the Queen had long perfected her role as the unwavering mother. Strict in meting out punishments and awards while also maintaining her rigorous authority which Ember was expected never to challenge.
Yet she hadn't expected this… that somewhere beneath all the acts they had been putting for each other, the Queen in fact considered her a daughter.
