Ember sucked in a deep breath as she felt a huge emotional weight press on her. But she had trained for this, lived for this.

It was time to break out under the averse protection of the Queen. The sooner she learnt how to protect herself, the better she would be for it.

"You haven't asked me why I came here?" Ember commented, noting the Queen had been unusually silent about her sudden appearance at the King's Quarters when in reality, Ember had never visited the king personally.

The Queen merely smiled—a smile that was a tad bit too sad and crinkled at the corners of her eyes. "I suppose like me, you've come to say some things that should have long been said. And collect some debts that should have long been collected."

Ember's lips wobbled at that as angry tears welled in her eyes. She produced Syria's book from where she stowed it in her flowing sleeves, holding it out to the Queen.

"I've found out who the spy is and who sent them?"
