Chapter 23 - .23

"Rain awakened after eating this kind of tomato."

Danielle pushed the tomato in front of him. "Why don't you try it too?"

Zachary smiled bitterly. "How could that be? It was just a coincidence. We ate tomatoes before and nothing happened."

"Ah, this one is different. I grew it myself."

As Danielle spoke, she pushed the tomato into his mouth.

The sour and sweet taste made Zachary smile and squint happily.

"It's delicious, much better than the ones we buy."

Seeing Zachary enjoy it so much, Danielle gave one to Rain. The family of three ate together.

The sour and sweet taste, and the dense seeds inside, made Danielle feel like she was suddenly back to her childhood.

She smiled contentedly. "It's so good, just like the ones my grandmother grew."

Zachary looked at her, thinking she was referring to her family. He was a bit surprised that her family grew their own vegetables, but then he remembered the special abilities of Danielle's ancestors and understood.

After eating several tomatoes, Zachary held his belly and waved his hands.

"I can't eat anymore, really, I can't."

Danielle and the little one each ate just one. The rest were all eaten by him.

Zachary smiled wryly. "It seems Rain didn't awaken his ability because of this."

Danielle sat down, a bit downcast. She wanted to comfort him but didn't know how to speak. After all, everyone has their pride.

Rain looked around and suddenly pointed at Zachary.

"Dad, your head is glowing!"

Danielle looked up in excitement and saw a white circle of light around Zachary's head. It was similar to the kind that Buddha statues have, but it flashed quickly and disappeared.

"Really, there really is something!"

Danielle jumped up beside him. "You just glowed!"

Zachary sat there in a daze. "But I didn't feel anything."

Suddenly, he pulled up his shirt, but there was no glow on his chest.

Zachary felt a bit disappointed. "Did you both make a mistake?"

"Impossible, if one of us could be wrong, the two of us wouldn't," Danielle said confidently. "You just didn't eat enough. I'm sure of it."

She grabbed both of their hands and, in the next second, the family of three appeared in Danielle's space.

Though some tomatoes had been eaten, there were still plenty left.

Danielle waved her hand generously. "Eat, Zachary, you go eat. We'll stay here until you awaken."

It seemed that the energy was insufficient, slowly enveloping Zachary's entire body.

Danielle suddenly remembered something and rushed over, handing Zachary a few more tomatoes.

"Hurry, eat quickly."

Zachary, unable to stop himself from feeling nauseous from eating so much, grabbed the tomatoes and almost stuffed them into his mouth.

As he ate more, the white light intensified.

Eventually, Zachary was fully enveloped, and Danielle and the others watched anxiously.

She had awakened a month ago, but Rain only took a short time. She didn't know how long it would take for Zachary.

Danielle thought for a moment. "Rain, how about we go outside?"

Staying in the space all the time wasn't a solution, and she couldn't let others discover her secret.

What if someone found out and took it from her?

Rain obediently nodded, and the two left the space.

While Danielle waited excitedly, things weren't going so smoothly for Dora in the main house.

Crash, crash, crash.

The sound of things breaking echoed repeatedly. Several servants were kneeling outside Dora's room, but none of them dared to enter.

Ning Wanrong swayed over gracefully, her every movement elegant. She waved at the servants.

"Leave."

"Yes, Madam."

Once the servants were gone, Ning Wanrong softly spoke.

"Dora, open the door."

In the middle of her anger, Dora immediately snapped out of it when she heard the voice.

"Mom, why are you here? Didn't you go out to play cards?"

Why had no one reminded her of what was happening?

She was going to scold the servants outside, but when she realized the hallway was empty, her anxiety only grew.

Ning Wanrong continued to smile. "I heard you were angry, so I came to check on you. What's wrong? Don't want your mother to come in?"

Dora trembled. She didn't want to open the door but didn't dare refuse.

She hesitantly moved aside. "Mom..."

Her voice carried a hint of pleading, and Ning Wanrong didn't speak.

She casually closed the door, turned around, and slapped her across the face.

Dora was used to it and didn't dare to shout in pain, quietly kneeling down.

"Sorry, Mom, I was wrong."

"Tell me, what madness are you up to now? Do you know that everyone is watching your every move?"

"Are you trying to embarrass me? Useless thing!"

Ning Wanrong still smiled gently, but her words were incredibly harsh.

She looked at Dora as though she were a dirty rag.

Dora lowered her head even more. "Mom, it's that Danielle, you don't know, she awakened a special ability."

"I originally wanted to send someone to kill her, but the people I sent were killed instead."

"Mom, she went too far. She dared to kill my people."

Slap.

Ning Wanrong slapped her again, this time symmetrically on both sides of Dora's face, leaving two red handprints.

"Mom?"

"Useless!"

"So what if she awakened a special ability? Is she a plant-type ability?"

Dora shook her head slightly.

"Space-type!"

"Heh, a space-type ability makes you lose your composure?"

"It's not an attack ability. Do you think she can really threaten you?"

Dora was a bit unhappy with Ning Wanrong's light attitude and wanted to retort, but didn't dare to.

After a long pause, she finally spoke.

"But if Grandpa finds out that Danielle awakened a special ability, do you think he'll bring her back?"

She remembered that Grandpa Doyunchang never liked Ning Wanrong or her.

If she hadn't "awakened" a plant-type ability, she might have been kicked out of the family instead.
