Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: A Risky Move, the Hateful Koharu Utatane

"You're just taking me for a fool," Raizen was so angry he laughed, "After I sign the contract, would I still dare to back out? If I can't back out, then what's the point of learning it?"

"And if I remember correctly, the Sage Art of the Shikkotsu Forest is said to be the hardest sage art to learn, right?", Raizen continued.

"Since records began, the only person to have learned the Shikkotsu Forest Sage Art is your grandfather, Senju Hashirama. Even your second grandfather didn't manage to learn it. Do you think I have that kind of talent?"

"So stop saying that kind of thing," said Raizen, "Although I am indeed interested in secretly studying slugs to improve my medical skills, that alone is clearly not enough."

"You should know that I not only developed that Healing Reversal Jutsu you saw last time, but also several other techniques I haven't shown because of chakra limitations. The conditions you're offering are just too poor."

"There are several more?", Tsunade's breathing became slightly rapid.

'And that jutsu is called the Healing Reversal Jutsu? Does that mean it can even bring the dead back to life?'

Before Tsunade could offer new conditions, the door to the office was pushed open. A nurse walked in and said, "Doctor Raizen, a patient is here and specifically requested you for treatment."

"Got it!", After saying that, Raizen grabbed his medical kit and rushed out like the wind, leaving Tsunade behind with a face full of frustration.

Days passed like this one after another.

At night, Raizen guided Minato in training, while at the same time verifying his own theories about ninjutsu.

During the day, he went to work as usual.

The only difference was that there was now a Tsunade in the office.

Over time, Raizen gradually stopped rejecting Tsunade.

On the surface, it didn't look like he accepted Tsunade; it looked more like he resigned himself to fate, which pissed Tsunade off quite a bit.

However, during this period as coworkers, the two of them often discussed medical techniques and medical ninjutsu, and every time they did, both would become fully absorbed.

As the pinnacle of medical ninja, Tsunade really didn't have anyone she could talk to if not for Raizen.

No one could keep up with her pace or provide constructive input.

She was simply the best of the best.

But with someone she could exchange ideas with, everything changed.

The occasional insights provided by Tsunade would sometimes give Raizen a flash of inspiration.

And Raizen's theories and proposals often left Tsunade utterly fascinated.

For this, Tsunade more than once sighed, 'How can a man be so outstanding and yet so annoying at the same time?'

As the number of patients they treated increased, Tsunade's reputation also gradually rose.

The idea of the "Twin Stars of Konoha's Medical World" gained more and more recognition.

When they encountered interesting cases, the two of them would research and treat them together.

Just like that, three months passed, and Raizen received a notice to go to the pharmaceutical department to develop a new antidote.

Raizen keenly sensed that his opportunity had come.

In order to accelerate his path to freedom, he decided to make a risky move.

Seven years had passed. He was tired. He really didn't want to keep dragging things out. After all, how many Seven years does a person get?

In a room in the pharmaceutical department, which had already become Raizen's exclusive laboratory.

However, the distrustful Koharu Utatane specifically sent people to monitor Raizen.

Raizen had long since gotten used to this. Having no freedom anywhere had become his life's norm.

That wasn't a problem, but what mattered was that he didn't even have the chance to test the Flying Thunder God Technique.

As one of the Five Great Shinobi Villages, Konoha's strength was naturally not to be underestimated. To escape successfully from Konoha, for Raizen, mastering the Flying Thunder God Technique was essential.

Learning the Flying Thunder God Technique was despair-inducing for others.

But the Flying Thunder God Technique was invented by the evil Tobirama, and Raizen possessed all of Tobirama's talents.

So he had never doubted that he could learn the Flying Thunder God Technique.

Over these seven years, Raizen had long since figured out the principles behind the Flying Thunder God Technique, but he didn't dare to practice it.

Afraid that before he even learned it properly, he'd be ruthlessly eliminated.

But the Flying Thunder God Technique wasn't one of those techniques where just knowing the theory meant you could use it, you had to undergo lots of training to actually pull it off.

Without mastering the Flying Thunder God Technique, Raizen felt like there was no place for him in this vast ninja world.

"Sigh!"

After sighing, Raizen began to take out various medicinal herbs and started preliminary processing and extraction on each one.

After about ten minutes, the witch Koharu Utatane showed up herself.

"Out!", she ordered the security guards, and soon only Raizen and Koharu Utatane were left in the lab.

"Evil little Uchiha brat!", Koharu Utatane looked down at Raizen with a cold and lofty demeanor as soon as she saw him, "By noon today, you must complete the antidote formulation and write down the recipe. If not, you'll die for sure."

As soon as Raizen heard Koharu Utatane's words, his anger boiled.

This kind of scene had happened many times.

And this cowardly Koharu Utatane, even if there was just one third party around, would never say things like "evil little Uchiha brat." She wasn't as blunt as Tobirama.

Only when no one else was around would this witch spout off like that, making Raizen want to kill her more than once.

'I might not be able to beat Hatake Sakumo who's watching me, but you?'

Among Tobirama's many disciples, Koharu Utatane was the only female.

In her youth, she was quite attractive, and with Tobirama still around back then, she acted very obedient, making her the team's beloved pet.

She was also a medical ninja, and among medical ninja, her strength was outstanding, she had reached elite jonin level.

Medical ninja generally have weak combat ability, something universally acknowledged in the ninja world. Tsunade is a rare exception.

So for Koharu Utatane to reach elite jonin level as a medical ninja was already quite impressive.

But ever since Tobirama died, seven years ago, this witch not only aged, but her strength also declined a lot due to long-term lack of training.

During these seven years, what no one knew was that Raizen had already awakened the three-tomoe Sharingan.

With his current strength, it would actually be pretty easy to kill this witch.

One genjutsu, and it's over.

But killing Koharu Utatane would only bring temporary satisfaction.

It wouldn't bring any real benefit and would probably cost Raizen his own life.

A life for a life, such things aren't impossible to do.

But to trade lives with Koharu Utatane?

Just thinking about it felt like a loss.

However, Raizen knew that Koharu Utatane's especially poor attitude toward him didn't have much to do with Tobirama.

As fellow medical ninja, Raizen's talent outclassed this old witch by miles.

And over time, it made Koharu Utatane feel like she was a total failure.

Naturally narrow-minded and once a proud prodigy, Koharu Utatane became twisted with jealousy toward Raizen.

If Raizen wasn't actually bringing in money for her, she would have long tried to get rid of him.

There was another reason why she targeted Raizen, it had to do with Uchiha Kagami.

In truth, this witch Koharu Utatane didn't originally have strong prejudices against the Uchiha clan.

So when she teamed up on missions and during the First Ninja World War, she found herself somewhat infatuated with Uchiha Kagami, a powerful, warm, and charming man from the Uchiha clan who had saved her many times.

But Uchiha Kagami always kept his distance from her.

Later, without giving her any notice, he started dating, got married, and now even had kids.

This drove Koharu Utatane nearly insane.

'Hiruzen pursued me, I rejected him.'

'Homura pursued me, I rejected him.'

'Even though Danzo never pursued me, there was a little something there.'

'And you, Uchiha Kagami, dared to treat me like this?'

So the old witch ended up hating the entire Uchiha clan and took it all out on the unrelated Raizen.

Even though Uchiha Kagami had been dead for seven years, the hatred in Koharu Utatane's heart hadn't faded.
