Chapter 181 - Chapter 181: Newt’s Invitation

Watching the figures of Emily and Madam Flamel disappear around the corner, Link helplessly shook his head.

He kept feeling that his status in the family seemed to have dropped.

Just then, Little Button, who had been hiding nearby, also held up a letter and came over.

"Thanks, Little Button."

Taking the letter, Link didn't bother about Little Button, who had once again burst into tears from being overly emotional, and just went ahead and opened the letter.

But after reading the contents of the letter, Link's expression became a little strange.

What Newt had sent him was actually an invitation.

This wasn't anything strange in and of itself. After all, back at Christmas last year, Newt had mentioned wanting to invite Link to visit his home, it was just that at the time, Link had his mind completely occupied with the Chamber and with Emily, so it had been temporarily set aside.

What really made Link feel strange was that this time, Newt had directly invited him to go to Greenland to carry out a mission given to Newt by the Ministry of Magic.

As for the gathering time, it was three days later.

In Newt's original words, "This will be a very educational journey, so not only will I be bringing my grandson, I also sincerely hope that excellent students like you, Link, can come along."

Link smacked his lips in hesitation.

Putting Newt's identity aside, someone you've only met once suddenly inviting you after a few months to go abroad on a science-education trip…

No matter how you looked at it, it felt completely outrageous.

What's more, Greenland, though it had many wonders and oddities, was also infamously desolate.

Link originally didn't fully understand just how desolate Greenland was, but after playing a game where you spread a deadly virus across the globe, he'd come to realize that Greenland truly was a place barely touched by humans.

Because in that game, the whole world would often be dyed red, but Greenland would still be completely unaffected.

Such a place, before it was even developed, was one Link really didn't want to go to.

With that time, he'd rather stay in the castle and grind some more spell experience points.

Thinking that, Link put the letter away and went off with Little Button to tidy up his room.

And by the time he had everything neatly organized and changed into casual clothes, Madam Flamel and Emily had finally finished their whispering and came over to the dining table.

"Link, come eat dinner~"

Seeing Link coming downstairs, Madam Flamel enthusiastically called out.

At this time, both Madam Flamel and Emily had changed into casual clothes. But compared to Link's somewhat medieval-styled white shirt, the two of them were both wearing long dresses with heavy Muggle fashion elements.

Link even saw a few hidden brand tags on them.

Clearly, these were part of Madam Flamel's haul from today's shopping trip.

Smiling, Link took his seat. Madam Flamel then asked him about Newt's letter.

Link didn't try to hide it. He handed it directly to Madam Flamel.

"It's actually an invitation letter. But I don't plan on going." Link said softly, then sat and began eating with Emily.

Like most ordinary families, every time Link came home on break, the meals at Flamel Castle would be at their best, this time was no exception.

Especially since Little Button wasn't just a house-elf who could only cook British traditional dishes.

German food, French food, Japanese food, Chinese cuisine, he'd dabbled in them all.

Whether or not the foreign dishes Little Button made were authentic was still up for debate, but Link already felt this was more than enough.

At the very least, it was much better than Hogwarts.

So once dinner started, most of Link's attention was on the food in front of him.

He even occasionally passed portions of his food to Emily for her to try.

Meanwhile, Madam Flamel finished reading Newt's letter, then covered her mouth and said in surprise, "Isn't this just great?"

"Hm? What did you say?" Link frowned slightly, surprised as he spoke.

To be honest, he now suspected he misheard. Because as far as he thought, Madam Flamel should also be against him running around with Newt. After all, the holidays were one of the few times mother and son could be together.

But clearly, Madam Flamel didn't think so.

"I said, Mr. Scamander's idea is just great."

Madam Flamel put down the letter and said to Link, "During your past holidays, you always just stayed home, barely even left the house, at most you went to Diagon Alley. If this keeps up, you're going to turn into a bookworm like those kids from the Carent family!"

Madam Flamel then looked at Emily and said, "Besides, this year we have Emily too! I already discussed it with little Emily, she'll be staying at our house for a while this summer. So this is the perfect chance for the two of you to travel together!"

"…Uh, Emily is going too?"

"Why? You don't want to bring Emily?"

The moment Madam Flamel said that, Link instantly felt a double death stare from both her and Emily beside him.

Link's body froze, and he immediately replied, "Of course I want to! It's just… what about you? You know our time together isn't that much to begin with…"

Link didn't continue, but Madam Flamel clearly understood the implication.

Her eyes filled with mist, and she covered her face emotionally, "Oh! My little Link! Mommy feels your love!"

Then her tone suddenly changed, "But you two go on the trip first, Mommy still has to sit down and properly discuss your engagement with Uncle Victoria. When the time comes, I'll just tell him you two have eloped! Once he hears that, he'll definitely agree!"

After saying that, Madam Flamel even winked playfully at Link and Emily.

Hearing all this, Link's expression became a little dazed.

He could understand why Madam Flamel would do that. After all, when it came to Emily, Mr. Victoria, that old nice guy, was notoriously stubborn.

If you didn't use a few tricks, he'd never agree. It's just… saying all that so openly in front of everyone, really okay?

Don't forget, Emily is sitting right here.

Thinking this, Link carefully glanced at Emily. He was worried she might be upset.

But the moment he looked, all of Link's worries vanished. Because at that moment, Emily's face was filled with a joyful, blissful smile.

Seeing Link look at her, Emily even pouted shyly and lightly kicked him under the table.

'Oh, alright then! From the looks of it, Emily definitely knew!'

'Maybe… this whole "elopement threat plan" was her idea to begin with...'

This round, this round was a pre-emptive betrayal.

Sitting at the head of the table, Madam Flamel could clearly see the little play between Link and Emily.

Seeing this, she chuckled, clapped her hands, and said, "Alright! Then it's settled! Three days from now, the two of you can go on a lovely trip together!"
