Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: She's Got a Bone to Pick

Location: Waterfall - Marsh Path | SAVE Point: The reeds shimmer softly. Fills you with determination.

Frisk pressed her hand to the glowing SAVE point nestled beside a patch of tall reeds. A warm pulse surged through her, and the gentle chime of Determination echoed in her chest. The world sharpened, settled. Whatever lay ahead—she could come back here.

"Okay…" she whispered. "Let's keep going."

The path stretched into a dusky blue corridor, water rippling along the sides. Distant glows danced across the marsh, casting eerie shadows. The reeds ahead rustled—and a spear slammed into the ground inches from her foot.

Frisk yelped, diving behind a pillar of stone.

Another spear flew.

And another.

Then silence.

Frisk held her breath. The shadows shifted again, and a familiar figure ducked beside her: Monster Kid, grinning ear to ear.

"WHOA! Did you SEE that!? That was Undyne! She's... she's so COOL!" He bounced in place. "She was just... throwing spears like WHOOSH! Right at you! You're SO lucky!"

Frisk blinked. "Lucky? She's trying to skewer me."

"Yeah! I mean—no! Not in a bad way!" he stammered. "I mean, she wouldn't really hurt you! She's just testing you! That's how you know she likes you!"

Frisk peeked out from the pillar. The path ahead twisted into mist. "I'm not sure I want to be liked like that."

"Pfft. You'll be fine! Just run really fast and... don't get hit."

Another spear embedded itself in the stone beside them.

Frisk took off.

---

Meanwhile, deeper into the underground, a certain skeleton sat slouched on a glowing rock, chewing lazily on a ketchup packet.

"Huh."

Sans scratched his skull, half-listening to the soft sound of falling water. "You ever have that feeling you forgot something important... like leavin' your taller, louder brother at home with the stove on?"

He blinked.

"Oh. Right."

He stood, brushing ketchup off his hoodie. "Welp. He'll be fine. Probably try to boil spaghetti again. Or spaghetti sauce. Or water."

A flicker ran through his eye. He felt the tremor. A disturbance—like something had shifted.

"She's movin' fast," he murmured. "And not killin' yet. Looks like a neutral run… so far."

He grinned to himself. "Guess I don't have to throw the whole bone pile at her just yet."

---

Frisk sprinted through the narrow corridor, veering left as another spear barely missed her. She dove into a patch of reeds, gasping. The water rippled gently—then went still.

A silhouette passed by, helmet gleaming, eye glowing through the slit in the visor.

Frisk didn't move.

She barely breathed.

Undyne stopped. Her head turned slightly. For a second, Frisk swore they made eye contact. But then—

Undyne moved on.

The tension shattered. Frisk exhaled, her body trembling.

Monster Kid popped up again, eyes wide. "Wow!! You didn't even FLINCH! You're amazing!"

Frisk didn't correct him. She was already moving, fingers brushing the next SAVE point nestled in a clearing.
