Chapter 1 - 1. The Rift

Dr. P Sakai stood in front of his experiment, frustration etched on his face. Months of research and experimentation had yielded nothing but dead ends and failures. His Dimensional Displacement Engine, designed to open a portal to alternate dimensions, had consistently malfunctioned or produced no results.

As he gazed at the machine, his eyes wandered over the intricate web of wires and circuits. Suddenly, the machine's energy output began to spike, and a low hum filled the air. The wires glowed with an intense blue light, and the circuits crackled with electricity.

A brilliant flash of light illuminated the room, and a shimmering, iridescent portal burst forth from the machine's core. The portal pulsed with energy, its surface rippling like the surface of a disturbed lake. Dr. Sakai's eyes widened with excitement as he gazed into the portal.

The air vibrated with energy, and the portal's glow illuminated the darkening room. Dr. Sakai felt a sense of wonder and awe, his excitement growing with every passing moment. But as he gazed deeper into the portal, he saw something that made his blood run cold.

A figure emerged, its pale skin and twisted features a stark contrast to the sterile lab environment. The figure was a vampire, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly red light. It wore an all-red suit, complete with a crimson hat and a white shirt underneath. The vampire's gaze turned to Dr. Sakai, and it smiled, revealing razor-sharp fangs.

Horrified, Dr. Sakai realized his mistake and frantically tried to close the portal. Alarms blared, and the lab's lights flickered ominously. The portal's collapse was like a thunderclap, shaking the very foundations of the lab.

But it was too late. Portals began to appear everywhere in the world, spewing forth monsters and creatures from other dimensions. Cities crumbled, governments struggled to respond, and the people lived in fear. The sounds of screams and destruction filled the air, and the once-blue skies turned gray with smoke and ash.

As the portals continued to open, the world descended into chaos. The creatures poured out, their numbers seemingly endless. The world was on the brink of collapse, and Dr. Sakai's actions seemed like a distant memory, a catalyst for the catastrophic events that followed.

Five months after the portals opened, a glimmer of hope emerged. The government established the Special Suppression Defence Unit (SSD), a team of highly trained agents and scientists dedicated to fighting the monsters and finding a way to close the portals.

The SSD's agents were trained to face the unknown, to fight against creatures that defied explanation. They were humanity's best hope, and they knew it. With every battle, they grew stronger, more determined, and more desperate. The SSD's scientists worked tirelessly to create weapon that could kill these monsters and also tried understand the portals and the monsters that emerged from them, coining the terms "rifts" for the portal and "Rift Walkers" for the monsters.

As the SSD fought to protect the world, the people began to see a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, humanity could survive this apocalypse.
