Chapter 2 - Teenage drama

I stagger through the deep night, tripping and falling a few times. Fuck! Human bodies are really cumbersome! I forgot how inconvenient walking can be. As someone that can reach anywhere just by thinking about it, this feels like torture. I remember how annoying it was having to coordinate my legs and arms when on the battlefield.

The first time I possessed a human body, it took me a whole damn week to master walking and using my arms. Truly hate this part of possessing a meat suit.

Funny though…Humans believe themselves to be the most evolved species on this planet and yet they take the longest to learn how to walk and to stand on their feet. The more I think about how their bodies are designed, the more it feels like they were designed by someone who didn't like them very much. Wish I could have been there when they were made, but then I would have had to spend even more time in their company.

No, thank you! Ten thousand years were enough! It doesn't matter who made them. What matters is that I am going to put an end to their existence.

After an hour of fumbling through the dark, I finally find Elena's house. I stayed clear of illuminated streets and alleyways cause I didn't want anyone to see me in this state. How would I explain all the blood and torn up clothes?

Elena's house is right at the edge of a large field of olive trees, part of a differently colored row of houses. Hers is a deep blue color, and smaller than the rest of the houses. I jump the low, concrete fence surrounding the back yard and slowly creep towards Elena's bedroom window.

Thankfully, Elena was in the habit of sneaking out of the house through her bedroom window after nightfall. Why? The memories have not been very clear on that. Maybe it has something to do with her ending up dead.

The bedroom window is still open so I hoist myself up and get inside. There's a lamp on by her bed so a faint glow envelops the room.

Nothing much to see in this bedroom. Just a typical teenage room. Soft pink walls, a desk by the window, a one person bed set against the wall with some stuffed animals on it, posters of celebrities on the walls, shelves lined with books and all sorts of trinkets, a closet and…a tall mirror. Perfect! I'll finally see how I look.

Long red hair, deep green eyes, a scrawny body that wouldn't be able to swat a fly and a pretty ordinary looking face. Or maybe she is pretty. Tsk… How would I know? All humans look alike to me—prideful little blobs of meat who think they are better than anyone else. Whatever.

The best thing about this room is that it has its own bathroom. I can clean up without worrying about bumping into someone. Imagine I were to cross paths with her mother or father while looking like a victim in a horror movie!

I grab a towel and some pajamas from the closet and head in to take a shower. The warm water feels nice against my skin. Taking baths was one of my favorite things in the past, too. Back then bathing meant jumping into a natural body of water, but this modern way of doing it is quite nice too.

Good thing I have been watching humans up close, otherwise it would be difficult to quickly adapt to this new world. Most spirits don't concern themselves with the human world so when they are called upon, they look like elephants in a china shop. The amount of embarrassing situations I have witnessed still makes me want to giggle. They were one of my many sources of entertainment in The Void.

Clean and fresh, I lay down on the bed, feeling somewhat exhausted. If only I could use more of my energy, I wouldn't feel so depleted…

That reminds me…I didn't find a cell phone anywhere on Elena's body. A teenage girl leaving the house without her cell phone? Out of the question! At least according to all the videos I have seen on social media.

I get up and look around the room and finally spot it on her desk. I tap the screen and it lights up. It's not password protected. A messaging app is open. Under the name "Robert" there's the last message Elena received.

Meet me at our spot. We need to talk.

How intriguing! Elena and Robert had their own meeting spot. According to teen dramas, they were an item.

I roll down, looking through their other messages and my suspicions are confirmed. Robert and Elena have been dating for almost a year, but in the last few weeks things have not been going that smoothly. Robert and Elena seemed to have been fighting a lot. The reason—Elena refused to go to parties with Robert and even just go out with him in general.

But, if they were not spending time together anymore didn't that mean they had broken up? Strangely enough, nowhere in the messages, breaking up was ever mentioned. Well, humans are pretty hard to understand and teenagers even more so.

One thing is for sure—the last person to have seen Elena alive was, most definitely, Robert. Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day. I wonder what kind of face Robert will make when he sees Elena unscathed after falling down from great height.

Until I finish devising the perfect plan to bring about humanity's destruction, I shall be having a little fun in this small town—while teasing my murderer.
