Chapter 8 - 8

"Heizhu, I'm really sorry to trouble you again. Could you take me to the commune with your ox cart? After I finish the divorce with Freya, I'll come right back. I'll try not to delay your work."

Like a sound from heaven, clear and magnetic, the voice entered Freya's ears without any warning.

It calmed her irritated mood caused by seeing someone she disliked early in the morning.

Oh right, that was the voice of the original body's husband, Brian.

"No worries, we grew up together as good brothers!" a rough male voice replied loudly.

As soon as she heard that, a sudden sharp pain surged through Freya's head, like thousands of fine needles piercing her brain all at once.

She groaned in pain, tightly clutching her head, trying to ease the stabbing pain.

However, the pain only grew worse, like a merciless hand squeezing her skull, making it nearly impossible for her to breathe.

Under this torment, Freya's consciousness gradually faded, and the world in front of her eyes began to blur.

Her body trembled uncontrollably until she completely lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.

When she woke up again, she was still in the same room. Her eyes stared blankly at the worn-out ceiling.

At first, she only knew she had time traveled, but she only had memories of the original host's time after being sent to the countryside, everything else was missing. Now it was finally complete.

Why was only part of the memory there at first? That's because her body in the apocalypse was still being rescued. But now the rescue had failed, she was dead.

She had died!

And the worst part?

She had actually died by slipping on a banana peel!

How embarrassing!

Who would believe that?

Such a cliché and silly way to die, yet it really happened to her!

It's like someone saying that King Yama died of hiccups, no one would believe that.

Ha!

The only lucky part, she was alive again!

She came back to life in the body of a beautiful 18-year-old girl in the 1970s who had the same name as her.

After she fainted, her soul returned to the apocalyptic world and saw herself being declared dead by the doctors.

She saw the leaders of several bases hold a big, grand funeral for her after discussing it.

She also saw that after she was gone, the chubby guy took her place as the leader and did quite a good job. He was also the only one who genuinely shed a few sad tears for her.

He hadn't let down the care she had given him over the past ten years.

As for the others, their fake cries and mourning only lasted a moment. They left quickly afterward, just going through the motions to avoid being criticized.

She had wanted to stay a bit longer to see who ended up becoming president, but suddenly a strong force pulled her soul back into this body.

Right after that, all of the original host's memories were crammed into her head. But since they weren't hers, she didn't feel very connected to them.

The original Freya lived in the capital, Beijing. Her family members were:

Her grandfather, Grandpa Lu, had earned many honors during the war and became a commander.

Her father, Mr. Qingyun, 39 years old, was an only child who hadn't been to the battlefield.

But he was very capable and outstanding at work. With his father's protection, he became the director of a state-run steel factory at the age of 32.

Her mother, Madam Wan, 37, was an excellent doctor.

She also had ten-year-old twin siblings, a boy and a girl.

And a 21-year-old older brother, Brother Peng, who was serving in the military in the northeast. He had already become a deputy battalion commander and had a promising future. But because of the original host, he was demoted and sent down to the countryside.

Sister Lujing, who had been living with her parents in Beijing, betrayed the Lu family. After that, she left her only two-year-old son LuZhen and divorced, then remarried SunCharls, the eldest son of the Sun family.

What was supposed to be a happy and loving family was ruined by the original Freya, who had a foolish mind obsessed with love.

Everyone lived in the military compound. The children saw each other often and played together regularly.

Over time, Freya fell in love with the grandson of her grandfather's former subordinate, SunCarlos.

The two families had a good relationship. The two grandfathers discussed it and arranged their engagement when they were both 14 years old.

Because Freya was the first girl in the family, everyone, including Grandpa Lu, spoiled her too much. They raised her to be arrogant, willful, and a bit simple-minded.

One day, while she and her fiancé sneaked out for a walk, he awkwardly told her that their engagement might not happen after all.

Freya panicked. She liked this fiancé very much—he always put her first, had graduated high school, looked handsome, and made her feel proud when she went out with him.

SunCarlos told her that his father, a deputy factory director, had discovered that Freya's father was secretly accepting bribes and arranging jobs for people.

He felt their family lacked proper conduct and had failed the trust of the Party and the country. Because their families had known each other for years, it was hard to report them directly. Still, he couldn't allow them to be together anymore.

"What—what should I do then? I didn't take any bribes! That was all my dad!" Freya desperately wanted to prove she was innocent.

"But you're part of the same family!

I also want to be with you forever—get married, have children, grow old together.

But I can't betray the Party or the country. I can only betray you."

SunCarlos looked at Freya with deep emotion and sorrow as he explained his helpless situation.

"Isn't there any other way?

Carlos, I don't want anyone but you." Freya stared at his handsome face and looked back with affection.

"There's a way… but I can't say it."

SunCarlos hesitated.

"Carlos, just tell me. I can definitely do it.

I'll do anything for you!" Freya bit her lower lip, her teary eyes full of emotion.

"I still can't say it."

They continued their dramatic love scene, and then moved into the part where he ran and she chased, until he could no longer escape.

Finally, after more than ten minutes, SunCarlos reluctantly revealed his idea.

"What? You want me to report my own father?" Freya's innocent eyes widened in shock.

SunCarlos's eyes flickered for a moment with guilt but quickly turned firm. He spoke sincerely and painfully:

"Only by choosing justice over family can you prove your innocence. Of course, if you don't want to, I'll understand—after all, he's your family.

But then I'll have to break our promise to grow old together!"

"No, he did something wrong. He should be punished. Why should I be dragged down by him?

Carlos, I'll report him right now." Without hesitation, Freya reported her own father.

Although nothing was found in the end, the fact that it was the daughter who reported him, and that Sister Lujing even came forward to testify, made it powerful evidence.

After all, who would give up being the daughter and daughter-in-law of a factory director just to frame their own family?

As a result, Freya's parents, brother, sister-in-law, and even Grandpa Lu were all implicated and sent away for reform.

Only Freya and Sister Lujing were allowed to stay in the city for their "contributions." Freya believed the bad were punished, and she was the symbol of justice.
