Chapter 61 - Supreme Commander

After the soldiers opened the door, Stark, Hafen, Matteo, and Pepe peeked inside.

A large, round table was set in the center of the room, with seats. The seats were surrounded by bookshelves and filing cabinets. A map, detailing the locations and movements of the cyborgs, hung on a wall.

On the other side of the room, there was a window that oversaw the city. There was also a desk and a chair. On the desk, a computer, files, and papers were arranged. The chair faced the window.

A man sat on it and observed The Capital.

The assistant bowed and announced, "The kids have arrived, sir."

"Thank you. Come in," the man motioned. He kept his focused gaze towards his city, below.

The assistant and the kids entered the office.

The man turned his chair around. He held a cigarette in his mouth. "Welcome, new heroes," he greeted and smirked.

Hafen, Stark, Pepe, and Matteo immediately recognized the man as the statue in the lobby.

The man was the supreme commander. He wore a fancy suit that showed his muscular figure. His black hair was swept back, with spikes, and his beard was trimmed. The supreme commander gestured to his assistant and ordered, "Get them some seats."

The assistant obeyed and acted quickly.

Pepe, Hafen, Stark, and Matteo sat.

"Do you know why you're here," the supreme commander asked.

"General Bobby told us that you summoned us, supreme commander," Pepe replied.

In the meantime, the assistant approached the supreme commander and handed him a couple of folders. She remained next to him.

The supreme commanded looked at Pepe and introduced himself, "I am Commander Darius, the authoritative ruler of Stribora."

"Why did you summon us, now? Is it because of the new war," Hafen assumed.

Commander Darius smiled and nodded. He commended, "I have heard of your efforts against the zombies. You kids have extraordinary feats for humans."

Matteo saluted and replied, "It's an honor to serve."

Commander Darius looked through the folders and asked, "Is Hafen the one with psychic powers? Can he read minds?"

"Hafen is psychic, but he cannot read minds, sir." the assistant answered.

"I see," Commander Darius muttered. He flipped the page and repeated similar questions for the other kids.

Matteo furrowed his eyebrows, "Have you been watching us?"

"We have," Commander Darius affirmed and continued, "My military has acquired Marcus' technology after the Zombies War. I want to create a special squad of unique individuals with them."

Pepe was surprised. "Do you mean the elemental weapons," he inquired.

"What did you do with them," Stark demanded to know.

Commander Darius flipped to the next page and revealed, "Relax. It's for the betterment of humanity. We have soldiers vigorously training to master them as we speak. I summoned you here, so I could personally assign your military ranks."

Smoke oozed out of his mouth.

Pepe, Hafen, Stark and Matteo were bewildered.

"Um, I think his mouth is on fire," Matteo murmured.

Commander Darius coughed harshly, and smoke flowed into the air. In a cool demeanor, he declared, "Kids, you will be a part of our special squad. Pepe, you will lead them."

"Wait, I am to be their leader," Pepe questioned.

Commander Darius nodded and asserted, "You have spent the most time with General Bobby and the late Marcus. Your brothers will fall under you ranks with the rest of the unique individuals."

After hearing his words, Pepe was honored, and he bowed, accepting his duty. "I will do my best to lead them and protect Stribora," he swore.

Stark and Matteo saluted and puffed up their chests.

Hafen proclaimed, "We will defeat The Evil Cyborgs."

Commander Darius sneered. He turned to his assistant and urged, "Prepare our latest squad, The New Heroes, for battle. Here." He handed a folder, detailing their first mission, to her.

The assistant nodded and guided the kids towards the door.

Pepe, Matteo, Hafen, and Stark walked out of the office and pursued her to the bottom floor. At the bottom floor, they exited The Headquarters and entered a military van. They drove through the streets of the city.

A few vehicles passed by.

Hafen, Stark, and Matteo looked out the window with wonder.

Pepe took a deep breath and turned to the assistant. "Where are we headed," he asked.

"We are going to our training grounds, The Battleborn Arena, to meet the others. The New Heroes will be dispatched to battle in a day," the assistant divulged.

What were the other recruits going to be like?
