Anna stepped into the elevator, her pulse racing with restless anticipation. As soon as the doors slid shut, she pulled out her phone and dialed Fred's number.
It rang and Fred answered on the first ring. "Hello, ma'am."
"Are you picking me up or not?" she asked, with a sharper voice.
"I'm outside, ma'am," came the prompt reply.
Anna swallowed the urge to ask why he hadn't bothered to pick her up that morning.
But then, she remembered Jayden had showed up very early, insisting that Aidan wanted her to go for the event. After leaving the palace, Anna had simply taken a cab straight to work, instead of heading home.
Maybe he had gone to the apartment and couldn't find her home, Anna thought to herself.
But Fred didn't even bother to call her. If he had gone to check her at home and had met her absence, then he was supposed to have called her.
There were no missed calls on her phone.
