Kathryn's breath caught in her throat, and for a moment she thought her eyes had betrayed her.
Anna had just stepped out of the sleek black car, and beside her was Aidan.
Her mouth fell open. She had followed them all the way from the apartment, but she didn't know Aidan was the one behind the wheels.
She was careful to keep her distance, careful not to let the car's headlights reveal her presence.
The Queen had asked her for this. Kathryn was to provide every detail of Anna's movements, no matter how trivial, where she went, who she met, what she did. Kathryn hadn't questioned the request. When the Queen gave orders, you did not ask why.
But now she knew why.
Seeing Anna with Aidan was all the confirmation Kathryn needed. The Queen had suspected that Anna and Aidan would still meet, despite the announcement of Aidan's engagement, despite Anna's pretense that she was less bothered about Aidan getting engaged to someone else.
