The penthouse was in chaos when Jayden arrived. Police officers moved briskly through the marble foyer and along the corridor, their voices edged with urgency as they issued instructions.
Every door was being tested for any signs that could be used as evidence, every corner searched, as if Anna might be hiding in plain sight.
His eyes found Aidan at once. He was standing with the commissioner, his jaws clenched with fury simmering beneath the surface.
Jayden quickened his pace toward them. Aidan noticed him, as he handed the commissioner a phone without a word.
"Alex, what happened?" Jayden demanded, hoping it wasn't what he was thinking.
Aidan turned to him, and for an instant his eyes showed what he was feeling; fear.
Aidan shook his head once, his fists curling so tightly the veins stood out across his knuckles, as he said at last. "Someone has Anna."
Jayden's mouth went dry, as Aidan's words confirmed his suspicions. Anna was truly missing. Someone had kidnapped her.
