The next morning, Rachel was jolted awake by the blaring alarm on her phone. Her head felt foggy, and there was a dull ache at the back of her neck.
Instinctively, she lifted her hand to rub it, but suddenly froze, as if something had just resurfaced in her memory.
Her eyes darted around the small rented apartment.
Everything looked perfectly normal.
Her pajamas were still neat, and there was nothing out of place. But… last night, she vaguely remembered being kissed, and then blacking out!
She hadn't seen who it was, but that kiss… it felt like Jeffrey's.
Yet now, everything seemed fine.
Could it be that what happened last night was only a dream? Maybe she hadn't truly let him go, and her mind had conjured up the illusion on its own.
Rachel's eyes dimmed slightly.
She tossed aside the thin blanket and sat up, the weight in her chest pressing heavier than before.
When would she finally be able to forget that man?
