The wind roared past me as I plunged through the night sky in my wolf form. Cold air whipped through my fur, and the world blurred around me, but my silvery grey eyes stayed locked on the figure falling just ahead.
Ember.
Her body drifted helplessly through the air, her arms limp at her sides. Her head tilted back slightly, and her silver-white hair fanned out above her, catching the moonlight like strands of starlight. Her eyes were shut, and she was unconscious, completely unaware of what was happening.
Her bloodied clothes swayed slightly with the wind.
My heart slammed against my ribs.
I forced my limbs to move faster, pushing through the wind, fighting gravity with everything I had. If I could just get a little closer… I could catch her. I could pull her back and save her.
