Chapter 4 - Thorny learning 3

A sword which drove away a being who almost ended the gods, a weapon that was very enticing to the travel god. Hermes went to reach out for the blade as thoughts seemed to swirl and congeal in his head. 'A sword like this should belong in the hands of the gods, not in the hands of a mere child' he thought before he was stopped.

Sai stared at the god with a certain look in his eyes. "I'm sorry, we don't just give out things for free" said Sai and Tomo stared at him with incredulity. He thought, as he was raised, that giving something up to help those in need was something basic that humans should do. There is also the fact that a direct no in some parts was rude. Then there was Tomos proverbial male, the man was a god so why not just hand over the blade and scabbard to a god who can essentially slam you into oblivion.

"Seriously? A mortal who dares refuse a god?" Hermes said with some anger and scathing attitude in his voice. No mortal had dared defied him, not even his own children( Not counting the host of Kronos). He began to leak his own divinity, a projection of his true godly form beginning to emerge as a threatening tactic.

Sai was unfazed, yet Tomo was a different story. He was afraid, a fear being brought about from the gods own power. Sai leaned down from Tomos head and whispered, "Lets learn about another one of your authorities". He gave Tomo instruction on what to do, and Tomo willed it so, and the vault followed.

Hermes divinity and his true divine form was suppressed, his divinity now under lock and key. Hermes eyes widened in surprise as his own divinity and even his own divine authority was suppressed, thrumming beneath his own skin. It felt odd, not having access to that divinity that allowed one power over the world, especially so for one so important in olympian cosmology, being one of the twelve.

"How did I do that?" asked Tomo and Sai explained. "The vault is yours, an existence outside of time and space and all of reality. It is an existence that can intefere and control things, even blocking powers of supreme cosmic beings like the living tribunal and the infamous Veldanava". This bit of revelation expanded Tomos mind who wanted to know more about the vaults functions, and Sai promised to explain in time but they needed to finish the deal first.

"So back to what we wanted from this deal" said Sai and Hermes seemingly tried at least a couple times to force his divinity through, yet it seemed blocked on all physical and spiritual fronts. He wanted to fight and demand, however the current situation didn't really fit well with trying to piss off people who have the solution to the olympian gods current predicament.

"Fine" Hermes managed to growl out, his pride having takin a good kick in the nuts, "What do you guys want?" he spit out. "First of all, your rude. Second of all, we wish to talk to the gods of Olympus about a favor, of any kind we choose" said Sai and Hermes, agreed but Sai wasn't about to trust him yet as a set of papers materialized before them along with a pen that seemed brimming with mystical powers.

"A geas?" asked Hermes, somewhat recognizing the familiar looking contract from the Gaelic lands, however, there seemed to be something more too it than just a regular geas. There was a hint of divinity entwined with the contract and Hermes knew that reneging would no longer be a possibility unlike the oath to the river Styx which the gods oh so flouted.

"A special one made by me, and it will be binding with ghastly and dangerous consequences if not obeyed, destruction of your divinity at a minimum and total death if continued refusal" said Sai with calmness that bordered on eery, while Tomo face was full of shock.

'I can do that?' Tomo thought as the realization of what he was able to do hit him squarely in the chest. The power to restrict the abilities of a god, some that that was inconceivable to him and how he thought the gods operated, especially the western conception of gods as almighty beings above the cosmos.

Hermes was shocked at the contracts strict requirements as he read the geas over many times. A key clause was the fact the blade will be returned to the vault on the end of its intended purpose, regardless of the parties new struggles. Hermes sighed and with the stroke of a pen which was also entrenched in ancient, potent magic that he could only really at artificially, with only a being like Hecate being able to appreciate the power flowing through such common objects.

Tomo and Sai signed the contract also, using the powers of the vault as the binding force to enforce the contract( useless against the will of the vaults owner) and Hermes could feel the magic washing over him, infusing into his very bones and blood and even his own hair. A mark of deep blood coloring made itself known on their skin, shaped into a circle of angelic wings and characters of strange origin and power making it look arcane and occult like.

"There the contract is now complete" said Sai as the sword and scabbard passed hands to the olympic God. Hermes felt like his pride was trampled on, but there was no choice when It came to dealing with something like Typhon. "Thank you, I am in your debt" he said with all the gratitude he could muster and left the vault, with the sword of promised victory glowing with the hopes of humanity.

"Was it okay to do something like that?" asked Tomo as Sai was preening his feathers. "Yes, you cant just roll over for somebody and just give them what you want, but that also means you don't have to necessarily be an ass either. The favor can be small silly ones or big ones depending on the favor. But in relation to the gods, putting trust in them is not a wise move as gods are often prideful and may even recant their promises" said Sai as Tomo nodded, the story of Greek gods fresh in his mind.

"But, you will learn the ropes easily enough as you go along your life, and destiny to boot" said Sai, with the last part being slightly whispered. Tomo knew there was something more to what he said, but he figured it was something he could have gotten more info from later. Sai than taught Tomo the power of space, and Tomo ripped open the portal back to his room in a golden shower and flow of magic.

Tomo had often realized he did not need to sleep much, and as such he decided to use this extra time to come up with a personal chant like Elias has, like his chant about nettles and thorns. It was something he worked on till morning, and when the sun rose some of the fae began to stir, especially the salamanders and the undine and the snowflies.

The paper he wrote on seemed filled with endless iterations of chants, with input from Sai shaping the words he would use for almost his entire mage life. But that was not the time for that discussion, and Tomo got dressed in what seemed typical for an English gentlemen who worked, white button up shirt and suspenders and brown pants a boots. All made of natural materials of course, magic ran best through nature, it was more pure in a way than the magic which flowed through the cities of the world.

[A/N: Just shy of a 1500 word count. Hey guys, sorry for the long wait, being tired from work and such are factors in the late posting. I know Im going fast, but I promise the story hopefully wont drop in quality. A few more chapters in this arc and we will move on to another world. I also wanna work on another work of mine, hoping to explore a new idea with a new character I don't see used much in an alternate setting, even if he was an evil person, so hopefully I can do the idea right. Enjoy readers, and please keep on reading okay?]
