Kyle leaned forward, elbows braced on his knees, his jaw flexing with restrained irritation. The morning light caught on the edge of his cheekbone, making the tension in his expression look carved, deliberate. "We don't know how many guys are following you around, Roxy," he said, his voice low, that kind of low that meant he was trying—really trying—not to lose his temper. "It's better if you just stay home for now. Don't make it easy for them."

His words hung there for a moment before he shifted his gaze, cutting it sharply toward Sloane. The glare he gave her was pure steel, the kind of look that could freeze a person mid-movement. "And keep your wife at home as well."

But Sloane didn't even flinch. Not a blink, not the slightest movement of acknowledgment. She just kept eating like he hadn't spoken at all—like the sound of his voice didn't even exist in her world.
