Chapter 28 - Class Division Exam [20]

As I was walking along the street to another nearby small market, to rent an inn at a lower price, I heard footsteps.

Several at that.

And a bunch of thug-looking people appeared, with weapons in their hands.

A man with large build and a sickle on his back, stepped forward, grinning like a maniac, stood in front of me.

"Yo boy, what did ya' got there?"

Another man checked me thoroughly as if looking at a new creature, and kept his eyes on my bag and said, "Keep this bag here and we will let you go."

The others rallied around and surrounded me, completely.

How worse someone's luck can be, I wonder.

Now I am starting to doubt that someone is deliberately trying to bring me down.

Well, whatever the reason is, if I lose all the money here, then it will be too much difficult to survive even for 2-3 days.

And it's not like I can just give them one or two gold coins, and expect them to leave me alone after that.

They will definitely try to rob me completely of that pouch of coins.

Moreover, I can't show them that sigil of House Valen either, cause it's not like they are following rule and order of this city.

Their greed filled eyes left me wondering about how can I survive this DILEMMA.

"Are ya' deaf or something? Just leave the bag here and scram. Or should we change our language to make ya' understan', huh?", said the man with the large build, straight to my face.

But why did I say it was a 'dilemma', instead of me being in trouble?

I am clearly outnumbered by a bunch of barbaric thugs, who usually have natural sense of fighting skills.

Moreover, I am injured beyond comprehension, to the point that I am beginning to doubt how the hell I am not feeling any pain, despite the injuries.

Keeping that fact aside, the one on the left side of that man, who seemed to be their leader, stepped forward, furious of my silence.

He took out his short sword, followed by the others, taking their weapons out.

Their leader had a wide axe behind him, but didn't take it out.

Perhaps he thought that his men could kill me, a weaponless boy, any instant with their weapons.

As my silence went longer, they couldn't wait any longer and one of them lunged forward with a long sword, aiming at my head.

And the most creepy thing was their grinning faces, covered in blood, as if they already had killed someone, before appearing in front of me.

It left me wondering about how fragile human life is in this world.

Everyone here seems to be working hard to survive.

Survive from the demons, vampires, magical beasts, and....

Humans too.

Humans like these ones.

Nowhere is safe, be it the capital, or the Southern Forest of Grisha.

Nobody is trustworthy, be it the demons, or the vampires, or the humans.

The only one whom you can trust is yourself.

And that's the undeniable, irrefutable truth.

This is a bloody jungle, and the one who gets to survive is the one who is the fittest to do so.

That's all.

That's all I had to think before making up my mind to not spare anyone.

Cause I am not the one in trouble here...

They are.
