The next morning, Emerald was preparing for her journey when a guard knocked urgently at her door.
"Alpha, I'm sorry to disturb you, but it's about the prisoner Seraphina."
"What about her?"
"She's been screaming for you all night, Alpha. She's in… quite a state. The guards say she's been demanding to speak with you specifically."
Emerald felt her jaw tighten with irritation. She was already on her last nerves, and now Seraphina was causing more problems.
"Fine. Take me to her."
As they descended into the dungeons, Emerald could hear Seraphina's voice echoing off the stone walls even before they reached her cell.
"The shadows know, the shadows see... they're coming for me, coming for me..."
When Emerald entered the cell block, she found Seraphina looking like she hadn't slept all night. Her hair was wild, her eyes bloodshot and darting around the cell as if she was seeing things that aren't there.
