Chapter 4 - Glass

The envelope conveniently placed on the door's mattress, presumably thrown from the door's mail deposit. Though harmless, it's stamp signature suggests the contents arranged inside have the potential to be a threat.

I-Is it... from Madam? Selena's heart dropped the moment she noticed the signature. The capital "I" would naturally point to one person Seth have interacted the most during his past years as a low-sequence beyonder.

Isabelle Ordian, an identity of a woman who is adored by both women and especially men. Popular and glamorous who is always in good terms with each family within the area of her neighborhood. Who would've known that behind those facades, are a former male which turned into a female as a result of a potion's advancement. Her method of collecting trust from prestigious families, especially their head husbands, is to throw them into the bedsheets. Her voice carries convincing topics that can incite people's hidden anguish and desire. Such a person truly deserves a title of a "Madam" within the ranks of the Demoness Sect, an organization that Seth had unknowingly joined and is also composed of only females, but I guess now I know the reason...

Being on high alert, Selena immediately retracted her attention from the letter and onto the window. The outside view is blocked by the curtains, but one can still see through the curtain's gaps and onto the dimly dark streets.

She didn't noticed the letter before she took a shower, which implies that a person was here moments after she dressed herself and cleaned the basement. The individual who left the letter should still be present nearby if she arrived in the living just recently before the delivery of the letter.

Selena couldn't afford to be careless, specially now that she have taken over the body of one of Madam Ordian's disciple or possible her admirers. If she ever uncovered that the person she always interacted with suddenly became distant and avoidant of her, it would reveal Selena's identity as a transmigator.

As she scanning her surroundings, she steadily close the distance between herself and the window, grabbing the curtains, and simultaneously spreading both of her hands. Outside was the dark road, with dim lights emitting from the gas lamps built across each buildings of the street. Her ability as an Assassin have passively activated, gaining vision from the darkness similar to her state within the basement. She examined the outside, trying to discern any movements that might indicate another's presence.

But after awhile, she failed to uncover any unsual rustles or sounds. The 'delivery person' might've already been long gone from her apartment.

Heaving a sigh of relief, Selena's attention immediately turned towards the stamped letter lying on the door's mattress.

Selena's hand took the finely-made envolope and removed the stamped wax, the letter "I" was designed intricately, suggesting it origanted from a wealthy person. The letter within the envolope contained Madam Ordian's hand writing.

"I seems you've finally decided to consume the sequence 7: Witch potion and advance onto the the next sequence. I'm reminding you that this path is what you've chosed out of your will to provide for your family. If you've achieved the ascension successfully, meet me at the 'usual' place the following week, after you've stabilized yourself. I'll be waiting...

Your mentor, Madam I"

Next week... Selena suddenly felt the urgency of the situation. The person who is responsible for Seth's demise had constructed an appointment with him in person, but the Seth she intended to meet had already passed, replacing by an accountant from Earth. Suspicion would become inevitable...

Her initial plan was to devise a new identity, with Seth's family name as it's structure for validity, but due to the current circumstances, fleeing would become the most likely option.

Selena quickly entered Seth's room, from the mountainous clothes, she managed to get a hold of the closet's bottom drawer. According to Seth's memories, he'd always had a hidden compartment from a cutout piece of wooden board connecting the bottom drawer to a drawer behind his closet leading to his sister's room. This compartment was installed by Seth himself, silently carving a hole into the apartment's stone walls, It became an ideal safe for his money.

Removing the wooden board, it revealed stacks of Loen pounds and as well as pences stacked neatly to one another. The wooden compartment, also contains a wooden handled .22 revolver, an ideal weapon for swift and silent elimination, it's tip was rusted with dark spots, presumably caused by extended usage. Accompanying the revolver was a ten inch double-bladed silver dagger, with noticeable dark red spots.

This, along with the remaining four-hundred pounds would be enough for me to rent an apartment in Backlund's West District, amounting to one-fifthy to two-hundred pounds a year. The only remaining would be to mask the scent of blood in the basement, afterwards I would plan an escape route, arriving in the steam train station around 6 in the morning, the sun wouldn't be showing up until then an ideal time flee the City of Tingen.

During the entirety of the night, Selena slowly constructed an escape plan, taking notes of the routes she should avoid and what she should be aware off. Taking into consideration the density of the crowd the route would contain during certain hours. Following up her thoughts, she pulled Seth's luggage hiding beneath his bed, opened the locks and quickly loaded it the necessary items she would need during her 'trip' with the intention to never come back.

...

As the sun peeks through the darkened clouds. Selena, draped in a black cloak navigated through the back alley of her rented apartment 5 Daffodil Street. She took turns after turns, going from left then immediately turning right, not wanting to be caught near her rented apartment while outside, less she'll be recognized to be the Seth who advanced from sequence 8 to 7 just the night before by Madam Isabelle's accomplices.

After awhile of 'playing maze', she stopped at her tracks and turned her head towards the alleyway that she came.

This distance should be enough. Adjusting her cloak, her covered face could only be seen by her luscious lips. She strides towards the end of the alley left to where she stands. The galloping of horses followed by the clattering of wheels of carriages along with the aroma of spices and the chattering of people made her feel completely out of place, I truly am in another world...
