Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: Invitation from the Crown

The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the skies of the Lord's Dominion in streaks of crimson and violet. The Colosseum battle had ended hours ago, yet the aftershocks of Kaelen's resounding victory over Lord Corvax still rippled through the land. Within the heart of Stormrift Citadel, Kaelen stood atop the Skyward Spire's balcony, arms crossed, wind sweeping through his silver-lined cloak.

Behind him, footsteps approached.

"Brother." Aria's voice was soft. Her hair was damp, freshly washed from the battlefield grime, her golden eyes still shimmering with excitement. "Word's already spread. You're being called the 'Stormbreaker' now. Even the forums are buzzing with theories about your evolution tree combinations."

Kaelen chuckled, but his eyes remained fixed on the sky. "Titles don't matter unless they bring value. And this one," he held up a sealed scroll, "might just change everything."

Aria stepped closer. The seal was unmistakable — a phoenix crest wreathed in black flame. The sigil of the Crown Princess of the Eternal Empire.

"You've been summoned?" she whispered.

Kaelen nodded. "To the Imperial Court. In person."

Hours later, Kaelen stood within a high-level teleportation chamber. Only Lords with at least three battlefield victories were eligible for inter-regional warping — and Kaelen had more than qualified. He stepped into the gate, accompanied only by his elite guard and Aria. As the arcane circuits activated, the world twisted into a tunnel of light and storm.

When the haze cleared, they stood in the grand hall of Virelya, the Empire's floating capital. Spires towered around them, carved from mana-crystal and embedded with arrays pulsing with energy. Nobles, dignitaries, and Lords from across the realm wandered the halls, all eyes flicking toward the newcomers.

But none were more captivating than the woman awaiting them.

Crown Princess Elowen, heir to the Eternal Empire, stood on the dais. Her beauty was both regal and daunting — long raven-black hair, skin pale as moonlight, and eyes like amethysts aflame. Her gown shimmered like a living nebula.

"Lord Kaelen Stormrift," she said, her voice resonating across the chamber. "Your storm has reached even our ears. I welcome you on behalf of the Empire."

Kaelen bowed, measured. "Your Highness. I assume your invitation is more than a formality."

A flicker of amusement touched her lips. "Indeed. I have an offer — an alliance. One that could elevate your domain into one of the Seven Crown Territories."

Murmurs filled the room. Such a title was reserved for the most powerful of Lords — those who could challenge the very throne in centuries to come.

Kaelen remained quiet, watching Elowen carefully. "An alliance… always comes with terms."

Elowen descended the steps, stopping only a breath away from him. "Your evolution system, your victories, and your summon synergy — all of it intrigues us. But to trust you, I need to see how you fare against an internal threat."

A holographic map shimmered to life between them.

Quest Unlocked: Shadow of the Serpent Court• Objective: Investigate and eliminate a rogue Lord faction infiltrating Imperial territory.• Difficulty: S-Rank• Rewards: Crown Favor + Evolution Token (Divine) + Rare Recruitment Permit

Aria frowned. "That's... not a small task."

Kaelen, however, stepped forward and accepted the quest without hesitation. "Consider it done."

Returning through the teleportation gate, Kaelen immediately summoned his council. His captains gathered: Reina, clad in shadowweave; Selene, radiating calm; and Eren, flanked by his evolving lion-beast. Aria sat to Kaelen's right, reviewing the data stream from the Imperial database.

"Serpent Court," Kaelen said. "Operating in the Glassshade Basin, masking themselves as rogue lords to intercept recruits and resources."

Selene tapped her fingers. "They're targeting evolution materials and rare summons. That explains their sudden aggression."

Aria glanced up. "I'll deploy the Starborn Scanners over the region. We'll find them."

Kaelen gave a firm nod. "Good. Prepare the Nightveil Battalion. We're going serpent hunting."

Far across the realm, in the mountainous domain of Lord Zeiran, a pair of eyes watched Kaelen's movements through a crystal ball. The man, his hair streaked with silver and clad in obsidian robes, grinned.

"So… the boy finally enters the Empire's game. I wonder how long he'll last."

Behind him stood a figure in silver armor — a woman whose face remained hidden behind a draconic mask. Her voice was a whisper.

"He'll survive. He always does. But he's not ready for what sleeps beneath the Basin."

That night, Kaelen stood atop Stormrift's battlements once again. Aria joined him, this time leaning her head on his shoulder.

"Do you think this was fate?" she asked softly. "That we were sent here for something bigger?"

Kaelen stared out at the starlit sky. "Maybe. But I do know one thing — we're not pawns. We forge our fate."

The wind howled like thunder, and the banners of Stormrift flapped violently in the night. A storm was brewing.
