Chapter 5 - Familiar

Aviel's POV

I feel fine now. Honestly, I can't remember what happened earlier. The only thing I recall is that I was about to send my insects to attack that annoying Harmony and Marlin when I suddenly heard a strange sound in my head. It hurt like hell—like my mind was being poisoned.

"Lia, what exactly happened earlier?" I asked. I really wanted to know what went down.

She looked at me. "It's nothing. Not important," she replied with a smile.

I let out a sigh. Now I'm even more curious. Why won't she just tell me?

"Let's go to the cafeteria," she said, getting up from her seat. I stood up and followed her. We were the only ones left in the classroom; everyone else had already gone to lunch.

Eviliana's POV

As we walked toward the cafeteria, I avoided making eye contact with the other students. I had a feeling they were all glaring at me, and honestly, I didn't want to deal with it.

Oh, right. I finally learned what the royal students are. One of our teachers mentioned it earlier. I think Avy has a good chance of being one. She's got serious potential. But me? Never mind.

Because I wasn't paying full attention to where I was going, I accidentally bumped into someone. When I looked up, I saw a beautiful fox girl with long, crimson hair. She was gorgeous… but wait, she looks familiar. Where have I seen her before? And judging by her uniform, she's one of the royal students.

"Miss, are you okay? I—I'm really sorry," I apologized quickly.

"Are you hurt?" she asked, genuinely concerned. That surprised me. Huh? Is she actually worried about me?

"N-not really," I replied with a small smile.

"Wait, are you pretending to be nice to my friend just so you can hurt her later and play the victim?" Avy asked with a raised brow.

The girl chuckled, shaking her head. "Woah, so harsh, Aviel. Pretending? Can't I just be concerned?"

Aviel's eye widen. "Hold on. How do you know my name?" Avy asked, confused and a bit annoyed. "We're not close, and I'm not even famous. So how?"

I was also wondering the same. Is she a stalker? Or what?

"And I've never seen you before. Aren't you a fox? I'm always wandering around the Fox Kingdom, and I know almost every fox's face."

"Relax, Aviel," the fox girl replied with a grin. "I've been studying at this academy for a while. Haven't been in the Fox Kingdom recently."

Oh my! Is that for real. Then, was that mean she had a recommendation?

"Oh, I see…" Avy nodded. "Well, we're leaving now." She grabbed my hand and pulled me away. Ugh, she always loves dragging me around.

When we got to the cafeteria, once again, everyone stared at us. I sighed and chose to ignore them. But Avy suddenly stopped walking, so I had to stop too.

"What are you all staring at, huh? Want me to poke your eyes out?" she snapped, raising a brow. The students quickly looked away. I shook my head. She really is full of energy right now.

"Shut it, insect girl. Your annoying voice isn't even that pretty," a sharp, snobby voice said.

I turned to see where the voice came from. Of course—it was Harmony. She and her friends were walking toward us. Great. Trouble again.

"Tsk! The slapsoils are here," Avy said, clearly bored and annoyed.

Someone's POV

"Wait!" I called out, but they didn't hear me. Aviel, as always, dragging people away before I could even introduce myself.

Ugh! So annoying. Did they really not recognize me? And worse—they thought I was a girl? They even called me "Miss." Ugh! Is my hair really that long now that I look like a girl? That stings.

I continued walking toward the student council office. There was a lot to do, especially since it was the first day of school. We were all super busy. If I hadn't had student council duties, I might have had a chance to talk to them back in the classroom.

Axel's POV

I still can't believe what Miss Alfena was saying back in class. Who would believe that kind of stuff? What she and Miss Alvarez said sounded impossible. I was even trying to hold back my laughter earlier. But when I saw everything with my own eyes… damn. Her weapons were amazing.

"Ax, where's Gale?" asked Andi, sitting across from me. We were in the cafeteria, eating lunch.

"No idea," I replied. We hadn't seen him since this morning. Where could that fox have gone?

"Aish! First day of class and he's already missing," Andi muttered.

Seriously, Gale was so hyped this morning to start school… and now he's absent?

"Maybe he's busy with student council stuff," Chanfie said, sitting beside Andi. "But wait, wasn't Eviliana the sister he kept telling us about?" she asked.

"Yeah, that's her," Andi and I answered at the same time.

"Gale must be really excited to finally see her," Chanfie said, sipping her juice.

"Yeah, he couldn't sit still earlier," I added.

"Jax, why are you so quiet? Say something for once. You're acting like you don't even exist," Andi said to Jax. I'd noticed it too—he was quiet but he's quieter than usual.

"Don't mind me," he replied. Aish, so boring. "And by the way, stop calling me Jax. Just call me Jaxon. Your nicknames suck."

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" we all burst out laughing—except Jax, of course. Damn, were our nicknames really that bad?

"Hello? Can I sit with you guys?" We all stopped laughing and looked at where the voice came from—turns out it was Kayleigh, Jax's little sister.

"Hi, Kay! Sure, you can join us," Chanfie said with a smile.

"Kay? What Kay?" Jaxon frowned. "Call her Kayleigh."

"Let them be, Big Bro," Kay said sweetly as she hugged him tightly. "I missed you so much, Hehe."

We all smiled as we watched the siblings hug. Tch. So Jax can be sweet sometimes. Looks like he really loves his sister. I'm jealous. I wish my siblings were that sweet. Aish. Why am I even thinking about this? They'll never be like that… never.
