Chapter 23 - Chapter 103: The Fish Is About to Take the Bait

Zhao Ling raised an eyebrow in confusion and quickly tried to stop the two women.

"Dong'er, Yin'er, what's going on with you two? Why don't we entertain the guests together first, then all go for a stroll afterward?"

Naturally, the two women had no intention of agreeing.

They didn't want Zhao Ling tagging along—how were they supposed to go 'fishing' if he came?

Bibi Dong turned her head and playfully stuck her tongue out at Zhao Ling.

"Sorry, hubby. Yin'er and I want to go buy some things that you're not supposed to see."

"That's right, hubby. You're so thoughtful—you should understand, right?" Ah Yin added, winking cheekily.

With that single sentence, Ah Yin completely derailed Zhao Ling's plan to accompany them.

"Alright, alright." Zhao Ling nodded, watching as the two ladies walked away arm in arm.

As soon as they were gone, the guests and emissaries from the sub-halls, who had long wanted to make connections with Zhao Ling, swarmed around him.

Meanwhile, after leaving Spirit Hall, Bo Saixi opened her copy of the diary with a thought.

Reading the most recent entries, she felt a bit embarrassed at first.

Running all the way here just to ask Qian Daoliu about Tang Chen really made her look like a heartless person.

After all, she knew Qian Daoliu had feelings for her, yet she not only rejected him but also came to ask about his love rival. That was seriously inconsiderate.

Still, Bo Saixi felt she had no choice. That guy Zhao Ling was definitely in Spirit City, but she had no way of identifying him.

Asking Qian Daoliu was her last resort. If she knew who Zhao Ling was, she wouldn't have gone that far.

Just then, still focused on her copy of the diary, Bo Saixi sensed someone following her. Her brows furrowed, and when she turned around, she saw two pairs of eyes staring at her.

She instantly recognized them—those were the two beautiful women who had been standing beside the man who had drawn her attention earlier.

How strange. Why were they following her? Did she stare at that man too intensely, like some lovesick fool? Were they coming to warn her off?

If that were the case, Bo Saixi would laugh herself silly.

She, Bo Saixi, wasn't the type to fall for a stranger just from a glance.

She had stared at that man earlier because he was good-looking and gave off a gentle vibe. That's it.

Putting that thought aside, Bo Saixi faced the two women directly and asked coolly:

"You've been following me. What do you want? If you can't give me a good reason, don't blame me for being rude."

But instead of responding to her cold words, Ah Yin and Bibi Dong simply exchanged amused glances, let go of each other's hands, and passed her on either side.

Once they had walked past her, they joined hands again and continued ahead, chatting cheerfully:

"Dong'er-jiejie, we finally got engaged to Brother Ling today. We're officially his fiancées! Let's go buy some delicious food to celebrate!"

Ah Yin spoke with a joyful, deliberately sweet tone, her eyes sparkling.

"Of course! We'll buy lots of goodies and feast tonight. Once we get Brother Ling drunk... hehehe... then we can…"

Bibi Dong's eyes narrowed in a mischievous smile, clearly looking forward to something.

"Wait a sec... something's not right," Ah Yin suddenly frowned.

"Brother Ling slept in my room last night. So it's your turn tonight, right? Don't drag me down again—be fair!"

"Oh please, you're the one who dragged me into this in the first place. And now you're trying to play innocent?" Bibi Dong pouted, pretending to be upset.

Bo Saixi stood frozen, watching them walk ahead and chat as if no one else was around. She was utterly embarrassed.

Turns out she had misunderstood everything.

She thought they were tracking her. In reality, she was just being overly self-conscious. How mortifying.

Wait—did they just say they were engaged to a man named "Brother Ling"? Could that be Zhao Ling, the one writing the diary?

Combining that with what Zhao Ling had written about his engagement preparations in recent diary entries...

Bo Saixi's eyes lit up. After all that searching, could it be that the man those two were walking with earlier was Zhao Ling?

If so, everything suddenly became easier.

All she had to do was wait near Spirit Hall. The next time he left, she could follow him. Eventually, she would be able to question him about Tang Chen.

Filled with renewed hope, Bo Saixi felt a surge of excitement.

Meanwhile, up ahead, Ah Yin and Bibi Dong exchanged knowing looks and smirked. The fish was about to bite.

They didn't turn back immediately either.

Instead, they went around the city, browsing for tasty treats—candied chestnuts, roasted chicken, grilled lamb legs...

They bought plenty of snacks and stuffed them into their soul tool storage devices.

Bo Saixi, curious to learn more about Zhao Ling and the two women's preferences, followed them all afternoon, right up until they returned to Spirit Hall.

But she showed no impatience. As long as she could eventually find Zhao Ling and learn where Tang Chen was, it would all be worth it.

Resolving herself, Bo Saixi's eyes filled with determination as she went off to find an inn.

Unfortunately, not having the continent-wide Soul Master Handbook caused her trouble—most inns refused to let her stay.

It was frustrating. She was the High Priestess of Sea God Island, yet she couldn't even find a place to sleep after coming to the mainland. It wasn't like she lacked money.

But she understood—after all, the Soul Master Handbook was a key form of identification.

Without it, the hotels couldn't confirm her identity as a soul master. Naturally, they'd worry she might be a troublemaker in Spirit City.

Whether for personal safety or the city's stability, the inns had to be cautious.

Still, understanding didn't solve her problem. Was she really supposed to sleep on the streets?

That wasn't her style at all.
