Chapter 1 - Being Late - An Eternal Cycle

Dewy smell of the rain, a bright sunny day, and birds chirping away — is what it would be if the weather wasn't absolutely miserable right now.

Fintan quickly scarfed down his food, trying not to choke as his watch kept stressing him out. Please don't start without me he thought after finishing his food and throwing his plate in the sink — I need this big break.

Fintan considered himself as your everyday, average and nerdy geek. Big hazel eyes full of curiosity, glasses that could probably work as binoculars, medium brunette hair, and tanned skin, with an average build and height. But the biggest thing about him? He was always late — whether it be his work meetings to his blue collar workplace, or an important meetup with friends. It's not like it was his fault anyway — at least he tried to convince himself as such.

See, he tries to be on time, he really does! But for some reason, he either ends up being late by a few minutes to a whole hour. And each time he ends up missing sometimes, as if the universe is set on making him late and miss important things that may occur within that timeframe.

Now, that whole backstory shenanigan thing aside — Fintan is late, yet again. But looks like he only missed the first few slides of the presentation. As he closes the door behind him, he quickly and quietly sits down on an empty seat towards the back, hoping and praying that whoever saw him doesn't announce it like a welcome trumpet to everyone.

He organizes his copy of the presentation going on right now, sets the rest of his needed things on his table, and looks up while having is notepad ready. The thing that could be his "big break" is the promotion that's looming over everyone right now, anyone with quite a bit of experience, skills, and luck could get it - and he just HAS to be the one. With that, he's not only going to take some detailed notes - but he's also going to look the most attentive he's ever been in life.

He continues to take important and detailed notes:

1. Designing department is looking to expand their style and experiment, in order to keep people hooked and have a consistency in terms of individuality and attention.

2. Sales department is understaffed and is needing an urgent hiring process to be initiated as soon as possible —

Feels like a whole millennia when the presentation is over, but it was only an hour and a half. His fingers are cramped, eyes are burning, and Fintan simply can't wait to go to his desk and get stuff done. 'Hooray' for him, he thinks.

He gets up, collects his stuff, and leaves after acknowledging his fellow staff members. After a bit, he locates his desk and sets everything on there after taking a seat.

Before he can even touch his laptop, a voice shrills annoyingly, "FINTAN, MY GUY!" Whenever I hear that voice, I just know that it's going to be a long long day.

"What is it Aihan?" I say as I let out a sigh, please leave.

That gremlin grins and laughs, "Oh lord Finny, good to see you too I suppose?"

That's Aihan for you, never being deterred by anything — and being an all around, sunny personality. His looks were average, but befitting his bright personality. Hazel eyes. curly brown hair right above his shoulders, tanned skin, and freckles with a pretty tall height to accompany everything else. On top of everything? This guy is nuts.

I groan internally, "Apologies, but that presentation inside really sucked all the energy out of me."

He smiles sympathetically, "I know what you mean, these presentations have been happening way too often considering how much the sales have been spiking. Too paranoid, I would say, but you never know. The market is highly competitive lately."

"I suppose so, it's just frustrating to say the least."

"I know..that's why I wanted to ask you something Finny."

"Aihan, first off, stop with that nickname. Second — I don't like that grin on your face"

Aihan grins like the psycho he is, "See, I found out about this one place, and it's just 2 hours away by —"

Fintan rolls his eyes and quickly goes to say, "Absolutely not —"

Aihan ignores and continues, "— car and it isn't a crazy place either! Just a cliffside overlooking a beautiful and expansive forest."

Now that makes Fintan raise an eyebrow, "Since when did YOU become a nature lover?"

Aihan rolls his eyes and smiles innocently, "Is it bad that I just want some peace amongst nature? As the trees stretch on for kilometers? As the dewy, fresh air embraces —"

Fintan puts up his hand, with his palm facing Aihan and eyes narrowed, "Okay, fine, I get your point. But I'm driving, got it?"

Aihan grins widely and exclaims, "Awesome! This is going to be a blast!"

Fintan sighs as Aihan walks back to his desk and resumes his work. While Fintan ponders, was it really a good idea to go on a trip with him? But it's not like he has anything to do anyways at the moment, so he might as well go on this trip with Aihan. Well, no matter, he has to finish his own stuff and get out of here. Sweet sleep here I come!

An intertwined past with tangled lives

A heart so rich to last several lifetimes

Fate awaits those who are yet to complete

A cycle spinning for an eternity

Time will remain infinite

Your lives are unveiling before your eyes

Praying and hoping for an end to this loop

Like a cliff overlooking a void

You're the one holding the torch

Pointing towards the end

Savior and undoing.

...

Fintan wakes up with a jolt, breathing heavily. He looks around and quickly grabs his water bottle from the corner table, gulping the water as if he's been parched for days on end.

"What in the actual hell was that? Poem? Random string of words?" He says out loud, breathing a bit stable and simply confused.

The last time he had a dream at all was years ago, when he was a teenager. But never has his dreams been as weird as that — standing in a void and hearing nothing but words. Words that don't make sense to him.

He closes his eyes and sighs after placing his water bottle back where it was. It may just be from stress, yes, that's got to be it. Work has been so hectic, it's bound to have some sort of affects on his dreams and the way he thinks in general.

He lies back down and keeps his eyes closed, regulating his breathing and calming his heart down.

Whatever, there's a trip tomorrow and he's going to worry about that instead. Considering who his company is.
