Chapter 4 - Uninvited guest

"How much for a night, please?" I couldn't bear the pressure in that house anymore, so I had to leave for a hotel, just to cool off completely. I fear that if I stay a bit longer in that house, I might kill everyone in there.

The room I got was so soothing, well decorated and clean, with a semi hard bouncy mattress. Laying on me for a few seconds made me sleep off without twitching till the next morning.

I woke up very early the next morning to prepare for work and of course check-out of the hotel room, my eyes struggled to open. It was indeed a beautiful night. I never wanted to wake up from the reality nightmare I had faced in my home last night. I picked up my phone to see a lot of messages. It was from my husband, the thought of him being my husband suddenly cringed me which has never happened to me thanks to Mabel.

"He couldn't even defend me at all." I yelled furiously. I thought I had slept the pains off but they came crawling back when I saw his texts. I opened it and read them out aloud.

"Baby, you weren't in bed when I got in, you got me so worried and I looked everywhere for you.

I'm sorry for everything that happened with Mabel and mum, I know I should have defended you but I don't know what came over me.

Listen, Mabel has been overly pampered since she got pregnant, and that's one of the reasons her mum asked me to host her, because she knows I'll take care of her. Please don't take it too personally. Forgive whatever happened please baby.

trust me babe I'm only doing all of this because of her mum and her baby. Please come back home.

Fuck, babe reply my text please I'm worried."

I felt irritation building in me as I read Maurice text, he still had the guts to defend her even in text. I wish I could honestly believe him. Maurice Has never lied to me but this seemed different, I knew it somewhere in my guts that I have to find out something. Reluctantly, I replied to his text with a short and simple reply.

"I'm off to work now, I don't want to see Mabel in the house by the time I'm back honey" I dropped my phone and got ready for work.

My cab arrived just in time and I slipped in immediately. Embracing my cozy office again It always feels so good to be in my office.

Work has been hectic, it has always been like that since day one, well it's of clients flocking in to dine, kitchen chattering with flames and the sound of clicking utensils that always sounds like rhythm to my ears.

After work, I was packing up my stuff to head home, my door flung open and a junior staff member reported.

"Ma'am, there is a handsome gentleman with a giant rose bouquet outside asking for you" his smile seemed to be wider than mine.

"Who could that be, I'll join you shortly" I finished packing my bags and jet out of my office. I was curious to see who the handsome gentleman could be. I walked into the restaurant to see Maurice standing at his table with a very big rose bouquet and a big smile on his face.

I didn't know if I should still be angry or subtle with his gesture. But at the end of the day, he is still my husband. I majestically walked towards him and collected the bouquet. All eyes were on us as he caught my lips in a soft kiss. And at that moment, I felt all my rage dissolved completely. " allow me to make it up to you on a two-days date at our first house please ."

Aww how could I say no, he knows our first house has always been a precious place to me, we had picked the place near the beach view and decorated it with our own hands after our marriage. The house is minimal and portal enough for just a small family. but we couldn't stay there. It was too far from my restaurant. We had to move to where we currently are. I immediately said yes to his date. My body has been dying to go back there.

Maurice assisted me with my bags and we dashed out of the restaurant. My jaw dropped when I stepped out, this man hadn't come here to play at all. He ordered a limousine and a chauffeur to take us there. He opened the door for me and held my hand to help me into the car before hopping in with me. I felt like a queen, I felt like my husband was back to his senses.

We got to the house after a few hours of driving and catching up. I waited for Maurice at the entrance as he tried to get all our stuff out of the limou. I pushed the door open only to find maybe waiting inside the house.

My smiling face immediately turned cold as I glared at her. "What the heck is going on here, Maurice?" He looked shocked to see Mabel in the house as well. "Mabel, what are you doing here?" He asked and she smiled, moving closer to Maurice and I stood in her way. "Oh, my, I didn't know you would come back to stay. I'm so sorry, I'll leave right away." She said

"Yeah, please leave now." She turned to pick her bag, moving slowly and making a faint wince sound like she was about to fall and fainted to the ground. Maurice immediately rushed to her to help her sit up, leaving me to pack all the stuff he held earlier. She suddenly felt better after my husband had helped her up. I couldn't hold my rage back.

"Don't worry you can stay with us for the night, the house is big enough for the three of us. We will discuss this better tomorrow morning." Maurice added. My whole body tensed up, vibrating with so much rage and frustration. But I cautioned myself.

We swiftly entered the house, only for me to find out that all the decorations I had chosen had been destroyed, all of it. I stood looking at the whole decoration scattered on the floor. But somehow I managed to let it slide. Just then Mabel saw the flower bouquet Maurice had brought to me at the restaurant, she picked it up as if it was hers and yelp with excitement.

"Omg, Maurice dear, you remembered my favourite flowers. Aww so sweet of you." She hugged him tightly while I stood watching without a pull of reaction.
