Chapter 5 - Loyalty and deceit

At this point I just couldn't take this whole shitz anymore, like, I was so done with all this drama. This can't be happening right in my face and my husband turned so helpless that he couldn't even speak out because of her pregnancy. I was low-key happy with the fact that I hadn't told him yet about my own pregnancy, because I wonder if he would have shown all this trait to me. It's crazy.

"I'll just go back to my hotel, cos trust me honey, I'm so done with all this drama." I picked my stuff to leave and Maurice stopped me at the doorway pleading.

"No, baby please don't go, I don't want to have to look for you again please, I'm sorry whatever it is she does to you just view it as me doing it okay? Please." I catched Mabel's eyes glaring at me as Maurice pleased. I still own my husband after all. She was not pleased with the fact that Maurice had to beg me to stay.

"coming here is not a waste babe and I didn't plan all of this. Let me make dinner to help you relax please." He pleaded. I nodded and sighed. I walked back inside keeping my eyes on Mabel to stick some understanding in her head that I won her challenge and I own my man regardless.

Maurice removed his jacket and motioned towards the kitchen. But Mabel stopped him from going.

"Oh, Maurice dear, don't you think this is so insensitive of your wife? I mean you've been working all day to provide for her. You must be so tired already and you know I'm pregnant I wouldn't want to go close to cooking. Since Janine is a chef after all," she turned to look at me with a spiteful smile.

"Why not let her fix us all something nice to eat, you two have plenty of other time for you to cook for her."

Who does she think she is to give orders around? She must be so full of herself, behaving like the mistress of my own house. I said in my mind trying to calm myself from bursting.

"Don't overstep your boundaries Mabel, I won't have you talk to my wife anyhow you please okay, She's my wife and she deserves some respect from you." Maurice added, flaring at Mabel. And for the first time It felt good watching him defend me straight to her face.

Mabel could not contain himself and she glared at me with an angry look. And suddenly she burst into fake tears. So loud and annoying. I rolled my eyes and grit my teeth to her acting. How can someone be so preposterous?

"Oh, Maurice, you've really changed towards me since you married this… this chef right here, I never thought you could talk to me in such a manner. That was mean." I scoffed, rolling my eyes at her. I was not ready for all this drama, so I left them and went to the kitchen. I was starving and I needed to feed my baby as well.

I heard them whispering but I didn't bother about what they could be saying to each other. I was already pissed enough to care less. I started the cooking process, I was going to make a quick Mac and cheese with grilled chicken.

That has been my craving for quite some time. Maurice joined me in the kitchen after some minutes of their rants to each other.

"Hey babe, what can I help you with." I pointed at the milk and he passed it to me. "Just bring whatever I point at." I obviously had no strength to fight him or stress myself any further.

"Yes ma'am." He answered half way through cooking, the food had been thrown into the oven to bake. I was washing the used dishes while Maurice helped with the rinsing and drying. We were supposed to use the dishwasher but I kind of missed the traditional washing.

I looked at Maurice with my side eyes and I couldn't hold back from asking him the question that has been bothering me. "Maurice" he looked at me and smiled. He knows his smile always melts my heart. But I didn't let it get to me.

"I know you've never given me a reason to doubt our marriage but I can't help but feel that there is something you ain't opening up to me. Please be honest with me, what's your relationship with Mabel? I promise not to make a fuse out of it."

Maurice cleaned his hand and placed his two hands on my shoulder, the heavy weight of his broad arms pressed me down in place. He sighed. "My love, thank you for trusting me first of all but I promise you with all I've got that Mabel and I are just friends. I'm only giving her extra care because of her pregnancy, trust me you have absolutely nothing to worry about."

I blinked at him and he catched my lips in a quick kiss. Food was ready after our conversation and we both set the table to eat. I served Maurice and myself before serving Mabel.

Mabel took a bite and immediately spat it out with disgust leaning on her face.

"Fuck, do you want to poison me? I get it that you don't like me but you don't have to go as far as wanting to kill me Jasmine, why did you add milk to the food? Didn't Maurice tell you I'm intolerant?." She tried to fake another tear but Maurice stood up to pat her shoulder. Consoling her. "Not again" I whispered with myself

"I do not know how you managed to taste milk in that dish because I didn't add any milk at all, this dish was made with my milk free recipe." She looked at me confused and I smiled coldly. I immediately lost my appetite, I stood up and stormed out of the dining room.
