Niels woke up early at the inn. There was a light mist over the lake outside, and the room was still quiet. He got out of bed and walked across the wooden floor.


He was still thinking about yesterday. Pieter's talk about planning for life after promotion had given him a lot to consider. So had the visit to the Nederlands Voetbalmuseum, where he had seen some of the old Total Football displays.


Then there was Emma's phone call about the transfer window. With the new season getting closer, there was already plenty to deal with.


Transfers, tactics and League One were all coming up. For now, though, Niels was happy to have some time away from Broadfield. The quiet morning gave him a chance to think without having another decision waiting for him. The work ahead would be difficult, but he felt ready for it.
