Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

RAY'S POV

The surgery was successful. The girl's life was out of danger, but what I kept trying to figure out was the girl who attacked me and almost hit me with her heels. If George had not gotten in the way, I'd probably be the one hurt. I mean, I did not even try to push her away when she seized my shirt. She looked crazy and dishevelled. But there's no way she would do all that for no reason. Could she have been the one I contacted when I reached out to the emergency contact on the girl's phone who ran into my car.

It is hard to believe myself, but I watched the recording on that lady's camera, the angel that appeared at the hospital to comfort me. She was the one who brought me the girl's phone and adviced I reach out to her family or anyone on her emergency contact. She was taking video record of the scenery when the accident occurred, so she managed to capture the girl walking towards my Audi R8 v10 2024 model. It was a shocking reveal, but I could not bring myself to let it out to the public. So when the press kept on pushing me with questions, I just ignored. It is because I was also at fault. If I had not taken the old man's call and did not get distracted, I would have been able to avoid the incident.

I looked at the girl who was laying on the hospital bed like a peaceful bird in its nest. If I had not seen the video, I would never think such a lady could be suicidal. Why did she want to die, and why did she pick my car of all things? She should have used a rope instead of deciding to get hit by a vehicle. Or could it have been a setup?

My imaginations kept running wild and I thought about the many people that would want to bring me down. The only person that came to mind was Katrina Grants, George's mother. Even though the old man and I are not so much on par, he'd never do such a thing to me knowing how bad it would damage the reputation of the family. But Katrina would probably go to any length to bring me down.

I noticed the girl's finger moved. A wave of relief swept across my heart. I could go check on my cousin now. I got inside to see the old man was already there. George had passed out after he got hit by the crazy girl he was running after. The doctors stitched up his wound while he was unconscious. According to them, he passed out due to shock. The wound was not so deep, so he was not in danger. Seeing that he was sleeping peacefully, and only wincing once in a while, I knew to rest my mind. But I also knew the old man would scold me. It didn't take long before he did.

George soon woke up and tried to get up while struggling to keep his eyes open. I noticed how the old man breathed in relief. It wasn't so hard to spot his favourite grand child. If Lita wasn't a girl, she would literally be fighting for space with George in her grand father's heart. He only pampers her because he believes the worth of it was needless to him.

"Cousin!" I called out not knowing what else to say. And that was the old man's cue to prove to me that he only saw me as a tool and nothing else.

"You should be grateful your cousin is awake now. He got into this situation because of you. You just can't do anything right,"

His words got to me so bad that I let down my guard for a moment. But it is something I should be used to. I bowed my head on acknowledgement of my actions. He is right, I am the reason George got into this state. I knew it was time for me to leave. So I told George to get good rest and get better. Then I made for the exit.

"The girl!"

I stopped in my tracks to look at George. At first I wondered which one of the girls he meant. Then I realised it must be the girl he came with to the hospital. George had no idea about the accident before it happened, so he would not know about the girl who got hit by my car. Still I allowed him to say it.

"The girl who attacked you, is she still at the hospital?" he asked. I smirked mentally. Turns out he really did come with her. I told him she was with the police and that I would punish her right now that he was awake. I was hoping for him to ask me not to. But it seems that just like me, he dares not displease the old man in front of the old man. I just walked out of the ward. Unlike most other patients, George had the privilege to be in a VIP ward. But aside from George, the girl that got hit by my car was also in a VIP ward.

"And there goes the bastard!" I looked up to see Katrina, George's mother. She stood there staring at me with those judging eyes. She probably hates me so much because she believes I threaten her son's position in the company. Without answering her a word, I walked passed her. She does not deserve my attention. My aim was to get to the police to find out why that girl attacked me.

"Excuse me Sir! Mr Grant!" I heard someone call. I turned around to see who it was. A black chubby lady was walking towards me right in front of the hospital building.

"I'm a friend of Kelly. The girl who tried to harm you," she said. A frown greeted my face. She stood right in front of me looking like she was about to curry a favour. It was already late into the night and I did not want another drama.

"You are in my way," I said to her. But she seemed persistent and unwilling to move.

"The police wouldn't let me see her, so I decided to come meet you first. She did that because she cares so much for her friend and roommate," she said. On hearing that, it dawned on me that she was actually the one I had contacted.
