Chapter 3 - Fire ladybugs in the tomb

In the early morning of the third day of entering the mountain, the cold air pierced the bone marrow like a steel needle, and our advance team finally arrived at the big glacier. Rumor has it that there is a small, low-lying basin hidden near the glacier, which is the top-secret destination of the trip. Due to the special task, we can only rely on a military map full of crumplors, and struggle to find the way forward in the dense contour lines.

The Great Glacier is like a dormant beast and consists of three distinct sections of land. The top is more than 6,000 meters above sea level, and the snow does not melt for thousands of years, glowing with cold light in the sun; The middle part is long and smooth, and the hundred-meter-thick ice layer is like a huge mirror, reflecting the pale sky; At the bottom, it sinks deep into the earth, and the warm and humid earth atmosphere gives birth to a rare green belt. Altitude sickness has also lessened here, but if you want to go deep into the heart of Kunlun, you have to cross the deep valley beneath the glacier.

Before leaving, the engineer repeatedly advised: "If you move under the glacier, you must even breathe lightly, because the slightest noise may cause an avalanche." The crowd held their breath and moved cautiously, for fear of waking the sleeping beast. However, the unexpected befell without warning. An engineer from Beijing suddenly stumbled while sliding, and when we found him in the oasis below, we saw only a terrible corpse. Luo Ning, a female geological prospector, broke down and cried, and Wang Gong hurriedly covered her mouth - the cry at this moment, in this silent valley, is tantamount to the call of death.

After the instructor took the lead in a moment of silence, Gava and I were responsible for burying the body. The big man had just dug a few times into the dirt when a blue fireball the size of a basketball suddenly shot into the sky, drawing a strange arc in the air and rushing straight into the crowd. The fireball fell to the ground, the light gradually extinguished, and everyone looked at it, and it was a small ladybug that they had never seen before. Its entire body is as transparent as red crystal, its wings are crystal clear, and its translucent internal organs are faintly visible under its carapace, in which it seems to have flames flowing, exuding a mysterious and dangerous aura.

Wang Gong couldn't hold back his curiosity, wore deep myopia glasses to take a closer look, and reached out to pinch the ladybug. In an instant, the blue flames spread rapidly along his fingers, engulfing him in the blink of an eye. His terrible screams echoed through the valley, his skin rapidly charred in the heat, and his glasses twisted and fell to the ground. We wanted to help, but we couldn't do anything - in the depths of this deserted Kunlun Mountain, even if the flames were extinguished, he would not be able to survive for long with deep burns.

The second squad leader took out a pistol, but was stopped by the instructor: "You can't shoot, use a bayonet!" The instructor took the rifle, but his hand trembled slightly. He whispered, "I'm sorry," and plunged his bayonet into Wang Gong's heart. But the strange flame climbed up the body of the spear along the bayonet, and instantly swept the instructor into the flames. This usually weak but resolute veteran let out a heartbreaking cry at this moment. The second squad leader raised his gun again, but was stopped by the instructor's roar: "I order... No one is allowed to shoot... Take the comrades away! Before he could finish speaking, he turned his red-hot bayonet to himself, ending the pain.

Everyone was still immersed in grief, and blue fireballs flew out of Wang Gong's ashes. This time, it split into three and swooped down on the crowd like lightning. The second squad leader, the cook Lao Zhao, and the communicator Xiao Lin were unfortunately hit, and in the terrible screams, the rifle in Xiao Lin's hand suddenly went off. Bullets flew indiscriminately, and three more comrades fell in pools of blood.

"It can't go on like this!" I gritted my teeth, my eyes bloodshot, and trembling as I picked up my rifle and pulled the trigger. The sound of gunfire echoed through the valley, shaking people's eardrums. Looking at my comrades-in-arms who fell to the ground, I only felt that my eyes were blurry, and tears flowed uncontrollably.

Gava's marksmanship was accurate, and she quickly resolved three fireballs. But at this time, snowflakes suddenly fell overhead. My heart tightened, and when I looked up, I saw that the snowboard above was like a curtain lifted by a giant, and it was pouring down with the momentum of thunder. An avalanche is coming!

"Run!" The big man carried the unconscious Luo Ning, and Gawa and I set up Liu Gong and ran desperately to the opposite hillside. The cold wind howled, mixed with snow particles hitting his face and hurting, and the roar behind him was getting closer and closer, like the footsteps of death. We stumbled and our backpacks became a heavy burden, but we didn't have time to untie them. At this life-and-death juncture, the gun in his hand is always held tightly - that is the last dignity of a soldier.

Silver waves of snow swept in at an astonishing speed, swallowing everything in their path. Our steps grew heavier and heavier, and despair flooded over our hearts. Looking back, an avalanche was just around the corner, and a huge wall of snow seemed to have fallen on the end, enveloping the entire valley in a terrifying white...
