Cold.
That was the first thing I felt before I even opened my eyes. Not the kind of cold that sting, but the kind that seeped. A deep, ancient cold that moved through me like a breath… like memory.
Then silence.
Not the peaceful kind. The wrong, empty and dangerous kind.
My eyelids fluttered open, and I glanced around as fast as I could.
A silver glow washed over everything. Towering trees rose around me, tall and graceful, as if carved from moonlight and mist. Their trunks shimmered faintly, their leaves drifting like falling stars. A soft, glowing fog curled around the ground, shifting with every breath I took.
This was not Dylan's bedroom, or mine, or anywhere else that I remember.
"…hello?" I whispered with a trembling voice. My voice didn't echo. It simply dissolved into the air like smoke.
I pushed myself up slowly, suddenly aware of how light I felt. Too light. When I looked down, my stomach dropped.
