Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: So Many Acquaintances

Su Xingwan saw this and asked, "Are you full?"

The two little ones nodded.

Although the cake was small, it was enough for them.

Su Xingwan, holding the hands of the two little ones, couldn't help but think of Da Bao, who had been sold off early by the original owner.

In the story, even though Da Bao was sold, his life was much better than that of his younger siblings.

So she wasn't in a rush to bring Da Bao back, but in a year or two, their little uncle would come, so she needed to buy Da Bao back before Sanbao's little uncle showed up.

She didn't have a penny to her name now, and the original owner had long spent the huge sum gained from selling Da Bao.

The most important thing for her now was to make money, and strive to buy Da Bao back soon to give a perfect explanation to their little uncle.

"Auntie, I need to pee." Little Su Hua suddenly said.

"I need to pee too." Little Su Luo followed.

"Gotta pee?" Su Xingwan looked around and said, "Let's go to the restroom in the mall."

Saying that, she took the two little ones back into the mall.

"You two go in. Auntie will wait for you outside."

Su Xingwan stood at the entrance of the restroom. The two little ones looked at each other, hesitated, and then went in.

At that moment, two young women carrying designer bags and holding several shopping bags walked towards them.

Wu Qian questioned, "Isn't that Su Xingwan?"

"Seems like it's her, right?"

"Should we go say hi?"

Wu Qian smirked, "Of course, we should say hi. I just heard Zhang Qiaoqiao saying she went bankrupt?"

"Bankrupt?" Qu Qiuxin was puzzled.

Su Xingwan turned her head and saw two fashionably dressed women walking toward her.

"Su Xingwan, what a coincidence! Didn't expect to see you here."

Su Xingwan was puzzled.

Who are these two?

Wu Qian looked her up and down; the down jacket she was wearing was pretty, but the style was outdated, not the season's latest fashion.

"Su Xingwan, I heard from Zhang Qiaoqiao that you went bankrupt; is it true?"

Su Xingwan nodded, "Yeah, it's true."

"And...is it true that the variety show spot you had your eye on from Young Master Ye was snatched away by Zhang Qiaoqiao?"

She remembered Su Xingwan boasting that she could definitely secure a chance with Young Master Ye, and now she was proven wrong. Wouldn't she be feeling utterly embarrassed?

But Wu Qian only heard a calm "Mm" from Su Xingwan.

...That's it???

Originally, she thought that seeing Su Xingwan in such a down-and-out state, she would witness her looking miserable, but unexpectedly, she was so composed, facing everything without a hint of shame.

At that moment, the two little ones hurried out from the restroom.

When they saw their auntie still waiting outside, the siblings both breathed a sigh of relief.

Su Xingwan saw the two little ones come out and asked, "Did you wash your hands?"

The two little ones nodded, "We did."

Su Xingwan went over to check their small hands. Their palms were slightly damp and had a faint scent of hand soap.

She felt a bit gratified; they looked only about three years old yet could wash their hands by themselves.

She thought about how the original owner never really took care of them; the two had been forced to learn these things on their own, and she suddenly felt a bit sorry for them.

Wu Qian's gaze swept over the two little cuties.

She asked curiously, "Are these two your kids?"

Since Su Xingwan had never brought them outside nor mentioned them, Wu Qian and the others did not know she had two little ones.

Su Xingwan: "No, I'm their aunt."

Wu Qian maintained a slightly skeptical attitude upon hearing that: "...Aunt?"

Their looks took after their parents, with strong genes giving them an impressive appearance at such a young age.

Wu Qian couldn't help but want to reach out and touch their cheeks.

However, as she approached, the two little ones retreated.

The hand Wu Qian reached out awkwardly hung in mid-air.

[Little brats, just like their Auntie.]

Little Su Hua heard her voice and pouted displeasedly.

Wu Qian withdrew her hand, feigning calmness, and sneered, "Su Xingwan, since you're so broke, do you want me to help you find a job?"

Su Xingwan's eyes lit up, and she quickly said, "Sure."

She's been worried about not having a job.

Wu Qian paused.

Then she said, "Remember a photographer wanted to hire you as a model for a few days to take some photos; do you remember that?"

Wu Qian remembered rejecting that part-time job because Su Xingwan was proud, and she looked down on modeling work, thinking it beneath her.

When that photographer came to find Su Xingwan, she ridiculed him, leaving him embarrassed and eventually leaving in despair.

She thought her provocation would anger Su Xingwan, leading her to lash out as she used to, but instead, she was happy to accept it.

"Su Xingwan, are you having a memory lapse? Last time, that photographer left because you scolded him; do you think he'd reach out to you again?"

Su Xingwan was puzzled, "Weren't you recommending him just now? I thought he'd be forgiving."

She was aware of what the original had done, but she wasn't the original owner.

If Wu Qian was willing to bridge the gap, she was willing to apologize to that photographer.

After all, she really was dirt poor!!!

Su Xingwan hurriedly took out her phone.

"Shall I add him on WeChat now?"

Wu Qian looked at Su Xingwan's eager and happy face, feeling a lump of frustration in her throat. Her words felt like punching into cotton, offering no satisfaction.

Wu Qian, with a cold face, took out her phone, navigated to her WeChat contacts, and found the photographer's WeChat ID.

Annoyed, she said, "There, this is his WeChat; whether he'll add you, I..."

With a "ding," Su Xingwan quickly scanned the QR code and added him on WeChat.

[Ah! I'm finally getting a job!]

Heaven knows she only had fifteen hundred left. Without more income, she'd be out on the streets.

Little Su Hua looked up at her aunt: Is Auntie really poor now?

Wu Qian taunted her, "Don't celebrate too early; he might not even add you."

Su Xingwan smiled, "It's an opportunity after all."

Wu Qian: "..."

Her expression ultimately mirrored Zhang Qiaoqiao's earlier one, leaving without a word.

After leaving, she suddenly realized and stomped her foot in anger, questioning why she had helped recommend a job!

Shortly after they left, an elegant and cool woman saw Su Xingwan, and paused.

"It's you?"

Su Xingwan had run into another acquaintance of the original owner.

Awkward.

Help? How did just a walk in the mall lead to encountering so many acquaintances?
