Chapter 19 - Chapter 14: Convenient Aunt

Having gained Kurt's approval, Li Xin has truly stepped into the world of the Night Patrol. This is not just a formal induction ceremony; from now on, even if something goes wrong, there will be someone to back him up. This is also the rule of the Night Patrol, especially within a team, to mutually assist each other.

The fifth team consists of six members: team leader Kurt, deputy team leader Carlo;

Members: Wu Gang, Dinar, Fan Jia, Li Xin.

Team leader Kurt has deep experience and is very powerful, possessing a control system ability. Spiritual Ability Users with abilities are often outstanding. Dinar is good at tracking, Fan Jia is an expert in mysticism, and both have decent combat abilities, while Carlo and Wu Gang are quite prominent.

Li Xin's combat ability has already been recognized, but Kurt still emphasized obeying orders in battle. Dealing with monsters, cultists, and bizarre incidents often relies not on combat power, but on experience and control of the battlefield. Recklessness and impulsiveness are the most undesirable.

Of course, this doesn't happen overnight; it's accumulated through tasks over time.

Li Xin is not only capable but also has a calm personality, which has won Kurt and Carlo's approval. It's rare to see someone so young with such strength being so humble. No wonder Captain Luo singled him out.

After the district was assigned, when there is no operational task, team members will take turns on duty. As a newcomer, Li Xin follows the old members on duty, gaining experience, and occasionally patrols a bit. It's considered a formal entry; when nothing happens in the district, the lives of Night Patrol members are actually quite comfortable.

Li Xin took out the last reserve food from home, a smoked ham leg aged four years, brought it to Luo Jin, and also took the opportunity to report his recent situation.

Although Luo Jin didn't manage these affairs, he had already learned about Li Xin's recent situation from Sister Casey, and of course, he felt a bit proud. How could his judgment be wrong? It's just that the kid was better than expected and did not have any acclimatization issues. So when seeing Li Xin, he was in a good mood.

Putting the big ham leg aside, "Captain, I've officially started working, though I still lack some experience. I will learn while working."

He then succinctly reported his situation, which made Luo Jin nod continuously, clear and concise.

Scratching his head in embarrassment, Li Xin said, "Everyone seems to misunderstand that I'm your nephew..."

Luo Jin couldn't help but laugh, "Isn't this what you wanted? You've taken advantage and still act naive. But having a nephew like you isn't a bad trade-off."

Seeing Luo Jin's expression, Li Xin understood at once, "Uncle Luo, in that case, consider this ham leg as my respect."

"Haha, all right, I must say, the smoked meat and jerky you've made taste really good."

"I made it with a secret recipe soy sauce that the flavor absorbed after air drying."

Luo Jin nodded, "Being a bachelor, I don't have much to offer. This badge is a gift I received from the Archbishop upon my promotion to team captain. I'll give it to you."

Looking at the badge emitting a faint glow, Li Xin could feel its power, likely blessed by the Archbishop, so he accepted it without refusing, "Uncle Luo, then I won't stand on ceremony."

"Do a good job. The mission of us Night Patrol is to uphold justice, but remember, for a Night Patrol wanting to stay alive, don't try to be a hero," Luo Jin said, "If there's anything you can't solve, come find me."

"Hehe, Uncle Luo, just don't find me annoying when the time comes."

Li Xin left the office in good spirits, almost bumping into Kathy, "Sister Casey, do you really like eavesdropping that much?"

Kathy blushed, "What eavesdropping, I'm just concerned about you, Ah Xin, uh, that..."

"Sister Casey, are you trying to ask how to get closer to Uncle Luo, beyond just a working relationship?" Li Xin said directly.

Kathy blushed and, seeing no one around, quickly pulled Li Xin aside. This kid really had a way with people; she'd rarely seen Luo Jin so agreeable, even giving away such a precious Moon God Medal. Biting her lip, she finally decided to go all out, "Right, Old Luo is like a stone; no matter how hard you try, he stays cold. I'm not getting any younger, and my family is pushing me."

Actually, Kathy's intentions were well known to everyone in the Night Patrol, except for Luo Jin, who was like a blockhead. Kathy's credentials weren't even in question. In the Celestial Capital, she's among the top. Her family has a City Hall council member and is absolutely prestigious. She's young, beautiful, a top graduate from the Canon Law School, with a great personality and character. Though Luo Jin is capable and holds real power, he's still somewhat out of her league. More precious is the girl's heartfelt intentions. Typically, a noblewoman who awakens would choose the Church, not come to the Night Patrol.

"Sister Casey, you're being too modest. You are the goddess of our Night Patrol. Actually, it's simple; Uncle Luo probably has some feelings, but he's not very sure, or lacks confidence. You just need to be a bit more proactive, and it's only a matter of moments before you win him over!"

"I've been in the Night Patrol for four years; I'm almost becoming an old maid, and you can see this isn't proactive?" Kathy said with some resentment, making Li Xin seem less pleasing to her as well. Are you up to the task or not?

Old Luo is important, and Kathy the housekeeper is equally important; a local official is not as good as a current official. "Sister Casey, it's different. Work hours are still work hours. Uncle Luo, after all, is the team captain, very clear about public and private matters. Real communication happens during off-hours; do you have any activities together after work?"

Kathy thought for a moment and realized they really didn't. Luo Jin didn't join activities, and with him being the team captain, others felt uneasy, as if he had been alone for a long, long time.

"I used to invite him to concerts and shopping, but he never accepted," Kathy said somewhat dejectedly. After all, she was a girl, and couldn't really ignore her face. She didn't know how to be more proactive; it was already so obvious.

Li Xin knew this was his test and, after pondering for a moment, his eyes lit up, "Actually, it's simple. Uncle Luo often likes to go for a drink after work. Is it forbidden for you to go there? You can always accidentally meet, and if he drinks, shouldn't he send you home? It's not safe for a girl to walk alone at night."

"...I'm an Awakened..."

"Sister Casey, a drunk Awakened isn't much different from an ordinary person, and you're not a combat type; you can't fight!" Li Xin had to explain more pointedly, "If you can't get Old Luo drunk, can't you get yourself drunk? Ahem, Sister Casey, please don't say I said this; I only have one life."

He had just acknowledged an uncle and immediately betrayed him, and he couldn't help feeling a little guilty about it.

Casey clearly realized something, her eyes getting brighter, and she started to find Li Xin more pleasing again. How had she not thought of this!

Of course, she knew the bar Luo Jin often went to. After work is when people are most relaxed, with fewer concerns, and with some alcohol...

The atmosphere could naturally arise!

"Ah Xin, you know quite a lot!" Kathy looked at Li Xin suspiciously, her expression carrying a different kind of emotion.

Li Xin quickly realized, it's not that he knows too much, but that he knows too many of the wrong things, hurriedly raising his hand, "Sister Casey, this hasn't happened yet; no burning bridges. I promise this will be known only to heaven, earth, you, and me. We are allies; I'm your steadfast supporter."

Li Xin mainly played the sincerity card, flawless.

Kathy smiled sweetly, feeling better than ever, as if she had seen the light through the clouds. "That's my good nephew. Look, here is a meeting gift from your aunt. It'll make buying things easier with this."

Aunt???

The golden card in his hand was heavy; Kathy's proud lips already curled, humming a pleasant tune, clicking her heels as she walked away.

Watching the jubilant back, even the money-loving Li Xin felt he might have lost something.

How much is this thing worth?

In the end, Li Xin didn't ask, betraying his uncle for a reduced familial status seemed a bit heavy.
