Chapter 36 - Operation: Sit Your Lovesick Selves Down

Kai's POV

You ever see a grown mafia boss—cold, ruthless, devil-in-a-suit type—get flustered because a girl won't look at him?

I have.

I see it every damn day now.

His name's Sebastian Blake, and he's currently dying a slow, internal death because Little Miss Sunshine won't sit within a ten-foot radius of him.

Ray Lin has been avoiding him like he's the plague. No eye contact. No yapping. No accidental hair tangling in his watch. It's tragic. It's hilarious. It's…honestly driving me insane.

So I did what any responsible best friend would do.

I meddled.

Dinner was almost ready. Maids were laying the table, everyone was getting into place. And I, the unsung hero of the century, casually walked in and moved the name cards.

Ray Lin? Seated right next to Mr. Tall-Dark-And-Murderous.

One seat. No buffer.

I even lit a candle. For ambiance. Because I'm that kind of genius.

She walked in first, all nervous and smiley like usual—until she saw the chair.

The chair. Next to him.

And I swear on every gun I've ever owned, that girl froze like a deer in ten headlights.

Sebastian glanced up from his phone. Stiffened. Then immediately pretended he hadn't just been internally combusting since Tuesday.

Ray blinked. Looked at me.

I smiled innocently. "Go on, princess. It won't bite."

She sat.

Barely.

And I? I took the seat across from them. Crossed my arms. And enjoyed the best show of my life.

The silence was unbearable. So of course, I leaned in and said, "Wow, you two look cozy. Almost like someone moved the seats on purpose."

Sebastian gave me a look that promised at least seventeen forms of death. Ray turned redder than a Valentine's Day ad.

She mumbled something about the soup. He handed her a napkin. Their hands brushed.

Ray dropped her spoon.

Sebastian actually exhaled. Exhaled, like her finger had shot a hole through his chest.

And I? I sipped my wine and grinned like a man who just pressed play on the slowest burn in mafia romance history.

Mission: Success.
