I instinctively pulled my head back when he suddenly leaned in too close. The movement almost made me slip from the boulder, but he caught me just in time and, without warning, pulled me against him.
"I … of course I defended you." I avoided his gaze as he kept staring at me. "You're also my mate."
Rael clicked his tongue at the word 'also'. A moment later, his breath brushed my ear as he whispered, "Can I … be your only mate tonight?"

Why was my heart racing so fast at the sound of his deep voice, at the warmth of his breath against my skin?
