The cab driver had already thoroughly associated Axel with a devil in human skin. It was to the extent that the driver was convinced that the only reason those people wanted to kill axel was because he was so dangerously ruthless and wicked.
Axel, however, was oblivious to the cab driver's internal monologue. Right now, all Axel wanted to do was sleep. That was how utterly tired and weak he was.
Axel would have much preferred to hypnotize the cab driver to forget about him entirely once they finally got out of the forest.
But he couldn't do that for two important reasons. Number one, he was far too weak to attempt the deep, mentally strenuous process again. The second reason was that his hypnosis technique was based on physical pain to wear the recipient out first, to break their will. He couldn't do that to the cab driver.
