Chapter 25 - C025 : Baldr (1)

The morning sun rose, waking the nation of Telskyura to the day they'd be entertaining a rather important figure. This was a rare moment for this nation, as they visit only every so often. The School District had arrived.

Shurry awoke to his little sister, Seldas, hugging him tightly. "Seldas, that's a little too tight for a bed hug."

"No, you didn't get up. Mother says she has a present for us! So get up!"

"Huh?"

"Seriously, brother, you need to stop hunting so late! Spend more time with me!"

"Pfft, you two are too funny. Come here you two."

Shurry and Seldas, upon hearing Oluta, got up and ran over to her side. She picked up a specially wrapped box, and handed it to the two of them. "This is that special gift I was talking about. To celebrate your birthdays and the lovely relationship you two have. Go on, open it."

The two kids opened the box to find a pair of earrings. One had a silver paw, and Shurry's name engraved on it, the other had Seldas' name engraved on it. They were each crafted to be for them. However, Shurry took the one with Seldas' name, and Seldas took the paw print one.

"I had a feeling you two were going to do something like that."

"Big Brother! Now I can carry you wherever I go! And you can take me with you wherever you go!"

"Thank you mommy." Shurry said, as he put the ring on his silver, furry ear. "It sorta tickles." He giggled.

"Ah, big brother can you help get this on?" Shurry did just that. "Ah, I love it. Thank you Mommy!"

Oluta laughed, relieved that the two of us liked the gift. However, that changed quickly. "Now, I know it's your birthday, and I'd love to celebrate it more…"

"The something District is coming, right?"

"That's right. The School District is sending a delegation. They've already parked their massive ship, and their head god is probably about to meet with Lady Kali."

"So that means today's arena match is going to be… Bloodless then?" Shurry asked, wondering since it was arena day after all.

"Uh, I'm not sure. It's always hard to tell the way things will go. I'm not fighting today though. I'm going to try and get that Leon guy into bed." She said, licking her lips. "That means you'll need to go to Lady Kali's or the captain's tonight. I can't trust all the others, but those two would never do anything to you."

"Understood mother!"

The familia captain opened the door to the room without a knock. "Hey, Shurry, come with me. Lady Kali wants her wolf with her today."

Shurry's tail picked up and wagged side to side. "See you later mommy, and Seldas."

As Shurry left the room, Oluta felt an odd sensation take over her spine. And then a similarly odd one befell Seldas.

"Mommy? Did you feel that? What was it?"

"That, I'm not sure… I just hope it isn't something to worry about…"

In a meeting room, where Kali took only the most dignified of guests, she sat waiting for her wolf. A smile appeared on her face once Shurry arrived. "There you are, make sure you stay near me today okay?"

"Yes mama Kali! I won't leave unless you need me too." His tail couldn't stop. I know that Oluta is technically my adoptive mother, Kali feels more like a mother to me than Oluta does.

"Good, it'll be hard to keep my promise to keep you safe from those particular types, if you leave my side."

Just then, someone entered the room, it was a tall handsome man with wavy blonde hair. It was clear he was a god just by his scent. The next person to enter was a dwarf, yet, he was tall and had a mane of blonde hair, not too dissimilar from a lion's.

"Welcome back to Telskyura, Baldr. I see you made sure to take your strongest here as an escort." Lady Kali spoke, as she pet Shurry's head.

Baldr smiled, and took the seat he assumed was prepared for him. "Telskyura is rather dangerous for men. It's best to have the strongest of protections when here." He chuckled, then looked at the wolf. "I take it that this is the werewolf you spoke about in that letter?" His eyes focused, as if inspecting Shurry. "Leon, what do you think about him?"

Shurry looked at the other man, and was met with a powerful gaze. "I see he's been through quite a lot. He's no stranger to killing, though I suspect it's nothing that would be criminal. And… I sense a power similar to the gods coming from him. It's weak, but still present."

"I should have known you'd see all of that with those eyes." Kali mused. "I was hoping he could surprise you. Guess I'll chalk it up to the eyes of a level 7."

"Level 7!?" Shurry blurted out, and tilted his head.

"Yep, my top guy here. He's a genuine level 7." Baldr laughed. "Why are you so surprised?"

"Well, that means mommy Oluta doesn't stand a chance to get him in the sheets."

The room fell silent for a moment before erupting in laughter. Baldr's sides started hurting by the time he calmed down again. "You're a funny kid, but you're right. It wouldn't be easy to get him. Isn't that right Leon?"

"Of course it is. I like dignified women. Still waiting on that one to show up. Perhaps Lady Hera's familia has someone that I may get along well with?"

"Eh, well, you're going to be helping them soon, perhaps you'll have your chance then?"

"You jest, lord Baldr, we will be fighting, there won't be time for anything else."

"Sure, sure. Anyways, Kali… Why did you want me to see this wolf of yours?"

"He's a bit different from others. And I have no idea how, or why." She sighed, reluctant to ask for help. "But, Shurry, go ahead and show him."

Shurry took his wolf form. The reaction from Baldr and Leon was not just of shock, but of a teacher's curiosity.

"Kali, I know this may be too much to ask, but might I see his falna?"

"You really ask too much."

"I won't use it to-"

"No."

The stalemate here was intense. But Kali wasn't going to just let it happen.
