Back in Shurry's given room, Idunn took the time to get him all cleaned up. Deciding to soak in the water while they waited for the food to arrive, Idunn held Shurry gently, warmly, and close.
"I know you have deep scars, son." She said, a voice that enveloped Shurry in comfort. "I love you. And I want the best for you."
"I know that, mommy." Shurry replied, wearily. This day had been… Exhausting to say the least.
"Then, you know that those two girls had nothing to do with what happened to you? She asked, rubbing his head.
"I know, but, seeing any one of them scares me…" He started shaking.
"I see, so you know that they aren't the bad ones. But you end up reliving the event every time you see one of their kin?" Idunn said, thinking of how to solve this problem. "Hmm, perhaps your nose will be useful to you. You can recognize scents right away, so why not learn their scent? You can remember them as good people."
Shurry was still shaking and curled up in response to Idunn's words. I know she's not wrong, but I'd have to see them at the same time to do it properly… Otherwise it'll mess up my good scents… And I don't want to hate Mommy and Daddy. His shaking turned to tears for a few moments.
This must be horribly difficult. He's smart so he probably knows that what I suggested would put him in a position to put them in his sight again. He'll relive that memory until he's sure of them being good people. Idunn's feeling on the matter clicked, she realized what she just asked of him was so horribly terrible. I don't deserve such a nice boy. Not after asking him to relive that event every single time. I hope he's recovered enough and that skill helps him this time. I just know that those two girls are going to be delivering our meals.
"Mommy, I… I can try… But only if you're there…" He said, burying his face. "It's too scary without one of you with me."
Idunn, for the first time, felt like she had been stabbed. Ugh, I really don't deserve this boy. I'll do what I can to help him, I did put him up to it. "Of course I'll be there with you. I'm your mother, I'd never leave you alone with a random woman unless I approve of her."
Shurry's spirit rose a little. Seeing that the fatigue had been mostly washed away, Idunn and Shurry got out of the bath. Shurry in a custom made outfit, one that can magically stretch, allowing him to transform without worry. What he had on prior was another set, but they were utterly filthy… And, this one was a set of nightwear. Idunn also dressed up in her own nightwear. By the time the two of them were done getting cleaned up, there was a knock at the door.
Idunn took several deep breaths as she walked to the door. Once this door opens he'll see them… Here goes. She opened the door.
"Lady Idunn, we were asked to bring meals to this room for you and the boy." One Amazoness girl cheerfully said, fit and proper. Upon closer examination it became clear that she was roughly 9 years old.
"That's right, we brought lots of meat! The chef said the boy would like it." The other girl said, far less proper, and more carefree than the other girl. She was probably 7 years old or so.
"I had a feeling that the chef knew what to do." Idunn smiled, softly. "Shurry, remember what we talked about in the bath? It's time to give it a try." She suggested looking towards her son.
Shurry was currently panicking and pressing himself up against the wall on the hinge side of the door. From this spot he could catch glimpses of the pair outside the door through the crack in the door, while being protected by the door itself. His breathing was erratic and shallow. He was anything but calm right now, in fact it was as if the word simply left his very being.
He slowly managed to turn his head, shift his eyes, and witnessed one of the two girls, the older one. The memories of his utter helplessness flashed in his mind. The manic faces of the ones who violated him… It was an event permanently burned into his mind after all. He then sniffed the air… Doing his best to ignore the divine smell of food nearby… He sniffed again… That's mommy's scent… He sniffed again… That's… There's no bad person scent! His tail wagged a little, and his shaking calmed down. But that memory was playing on end in his mind.
His movement paused once more as a multicolored light appeared on his forehead, along with a burning pain. This was the skill at work, its effects increased in response to Shurry's need for it. So once the searing pain went away, he slowly walked over to Idunn's side. He held his head with one hand, and grabbed Idunn's with the other.
"Mommy, these two… They don't have the same smell those bad people did." Shurry muttered in a cute, low and shy voice.
This boy… Will any of the level barriers stop him? Idunn smiled. "Let's eat then." She said then turned to the girls. "Thank you for delivering our meals, girls. It means a lot."
"It was a pleasure, Lady Idunn." The older one replied courteously. Life in the School District had calmed her inner nature.
"It wasn't any problem at all, what are big sisters for?" The younger one cheerfully replied, declaring herself to be Shurry's big sister. His face blushed so hard, it was clearly a visible red. "Awe! So cute!" … "I'll be waiting for the day you feel comfortable enough for a hug. Until then, be a good boy!"
The two girls took their leave, each reminiscent of their own personalities. The food cart was rolled inside, Idunn shut the door, and set out the meals for the two of them. Shurry, having only had a single apple in the last few days, his eyes sparkled at the spread of meat.
Idunn giggled seeing his face. "Take as much as you want, Son. You've made some rather intense improvements today. And it was made especially for you. The chef who made these dishes, he's a werewolf like you. So it's bound to be delicious."
Shurry dug in, and in a single bite, he… "SO GOOD!" That tail was uncontrollable.
