Chapter 78 - Questions Everyone Asks
The question Alan kept asking himself was who the wise guy was using a drone to lure the infected toward the base, hoping to trigger an attack.
It was possible that whoever orchestrated this event had one clear goal: to kill everyone in order to seize the resources at the base.
In recent days, people had changed a lot. Most of them now wouldn't hesitate to kill a good man in exchange for a hot meal.
Good and evil had been left behind long ago—only survival remained, and within that, there were no values or codes.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Zz… Send an explosive drone and find the person responsible for this." Alan was angry and intended to give that clever saboteur a taste of his own medicine.
"Understood!"
Boom!
On the watchtowers, flames burst out, setting dozens of infected ablaze. The fire quickly spread from one to another. These infected would eventually die, but just to be safe, it was better to eliminate them—and it also served as good training for the newcomers.
Claire shivered at how easily they could be attacked. She knew that if she were in another place, her shelter could easily be destroyed by people like this.
Arghhh!!!
Originally, there had only been about a dozen infected wandering near the base, and a few more between buildings—stragglers left behind when the helicopters cleared out the larger horde. But they hadn't been a threat because they were scattered.
Now, however, with all of them gathered, the number had shot up into the thousands—and that was a real problem that needed to be addressed.
Sure, now that the drone had been shot down, they could lead the infected away from the base. But using that method every time wouldn't benefit them in the long run. Alan believed the better option was to destroy them outright.
Many were terrified. The thought of fleeing took over their minds, and seeing so many soldiers standing still, not taking any action, only made them more nervous.
Everyone knew what happened if you got bitten by one of the infected. No one wanted to become one of them, so the rate of eliminations quickly began to rise.
"Claire, don't get so close," Alan warned, noticing how excited Claire was becoming as she took down the infected.
Claire pulled back, took a deep breath, and after recovering, continued killing the burning infected. It was dangerous work, but with the right equipment, no one would get hurt.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
"They're climbing."
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Alan trusted his snipers, who were now enjoying themselves. He had the best resources available to continue expanding his territory.
"A horde is approaching."
Boom!
"Zz… Requesting airstrike on my position."
