Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Humans, Aren't They Amazing?

Just over ten minutes later, Robin emerged from the store, laden with bags of all sizes. "Sorry for the wait," she said to Lü Heng. "Let's go."

Lü Heng, who had been engrossed in his phone, trying to kill time, froze in surprise. "Huh?"

He looked up and saw that Robin had already changed. She was now wearing a white T-shirt with an indecipherable string of English words, paired with khaki shorts and plain sandals.

The sandals, however, clearly revealed her adorable toes, painted with sky-blue nail polish.

Her outfit... wasn't exactly drab, but it certainly lacked any distinctive flair. This was hardly surprising; Robin knew nothing about fashion. For her, clothes simply needed to be wearable. After the store assistant took her measurements, she had tried to recommend some outfits, but Robin just wandered around grabbing clothes as casually as if she were grocery shopping. After a quick tour of the store, she deposited seven or eight outfits at the checkout counter.

The process for underwear and shoes was much the same: a quick look around, grab a few items.

Finally, Robin said to the bewildered shop assistant, "That's all."

To be honest, Robin wasn't particularly opposed to women's clothing. Wasn't it natural for girls to wear feminine attire?

Still, among the seven or eight outfits she'd chosen, most leaned toward neutral styles, with only two skirts.

Before paying, Robin suddenly noticed the stockings hanging nearby. After a moment's hesitation, she grabbed two pairs of black stockings and two pairs of white stockings. "And... add these too."

Back in the present, though Robin's current outfit was rather ordinary compared to her previous flamboyant gown, Robin's body served as a natural mannequin. Even these plain clothes looked stunning on her.

If Robin's earlier appearance had resembled that of a global superstar, dazzling and beautiful yet aloof, like the perfect goddess from everyone's dreams—admirable but unattainable—her current look evoked the charm of a childhood sweetheart, the girl next door with maxed-out beauty, radiating warmth and approachability.

To be honest, her previous outfit was undeniably more stunning, but... this one wasn't bad either.

Robin stowed the last of her shopping bags in the trunk and said, "Let's go. Next stop."

If she wanted to continue posting videos, she couldn't just casually record a cappella performances like yesterday and upload them. She'd need to make them more professional, which meant investing in proper equipment.

Unlike clothing, Robin was very knowledgeable about computers. But when she arrived at the electronics market, she was confronted with a sea of unfamiliar brands and technical jargon, and fell silent, feeling completely out of her depth.

She looked exactly like the perfect "big fat sheep" ripe for the picking. As the sales staff sharpened their knives, eager to pounce, Lü Heng, who had been standing beside her, said, "Miss Robin, if you're looking to buy a computer, I might be able to help. I know quite a bit about this stuff."

Unlike the women's clothing store where Lü Heng had waited outside, he had followed her into the electronics market, intending to offer his assistance. After all, who could resist the chance to show off in front of a beautiful girl?

But he was destined for disappointment, not because Robin wouldn't give him a chance, but because she gave him too much of one.

"Alright, I'll leave it to you. Around ten thousand yuan, best specs possible. No other requirements. Call me when you're ready to pay. I'm going outside for some fresh air." With that, she strode out of the computer market, leaving Lü Heng and the newly arrived salesperson staring awkwardly at each other.

The salesperson hesitated. "She..."

Lü Heng interrupted. "I'll take this, this, and this."

"That's five hundred yuan..."

"Three hundred. Hurry up."

The salesperson swore under his breath. "Damn!"

Meanwhile, Robin stood at the entrance, quietly gazing at the blue sky. It was astonishing how human psychology worked. Being killed by a truck, transmigrating to another world, becoming a girl—none of these earth-shattering events had broken her spirit. Yet this trivial incident had hit her the hardest.

Sometimes, a person paralyzed from the waist down can stubbornly cling to life. Other times, a mere scratch can lead to a fatal infection.

Humans are truly baffling, aren't they?

As Robin was lost in thought, a dark figure suddenly plummeted from the sky, crashing to the ground with a deafening boom right in front of her.

Stunned for a full two seconds, Robin finally reacted. She scrambled backward, squinting at the fallen object. It turned out to be a massive barbell, the kind used for bench presses, loaded with an absurd number of iron plates on each end. She couldn't even imagine how heavy the thing must be.

Thank God no one was in the middle of the road, she thought. They would have been crushed instantly.

The next moment, a gruff male voice thundered from above, "You suicidal idiot! Trying to get yourself killed?!"

The curse wasn't directed at her. Robin looked up to see one man dangling another out of a fourth-floor window by one arm. The fourth floor of the computer market housed a gym; apparently, a fight had broken out up there.

"What's going on?" The commotion naturally drew the attention of Lü Heng, who had been arguing with a salesperson. He rushed outside to ask.

"I'm not sure," Robin replied, shaking her head and pointing upward. "It looks like two guys are fighting."

Just then, the person upstairs suddenly let go. The man plummeting through the air let out a piercing scream, but in the same instant, Lü Heng beside Robin leaped over three meters high, grabbed the second-floor windowsill for leverage, and jumped again, catching the falling man in a princess carry mid-air.

The entire motion was flawlessly fluid. By the time Robin could react, Lü Heng had already landed steadily on the ground.

"Ahhh!!! Uh... eh?" The man who had been thrown down was a muscular man in his thirties. He seemed completely stunned that someone had saved him, his scream gradually turning into a bewildered murmur.

From Robin's perspective, the sight of one man princess-carrying another muscular man, their eyes locked in what appeared to be a "deeply affectionate" gaze, sent shivers down her spine.

"Ew, that's way too twisted," she muttered.

But the reality was far from romantic. The muscular man's "affectionate gaze" was pure confusion, while Lü Heng's "affectionate gaze" was one of careful observation. After a moment, he set the man down and glared up at the fourth floor, annoyance evident in his expression. "An Evolver?"
